Title: School Counselor

Qualifications:

* Hold valid New York State School Counselor certification

* Qualified to be employed as a School Counselor per NYS Education Department guidelines

* Effective communication and problem solving skills

* Knowledge of curriculum and the instructional process

* Ability to work collaboratively in an educational setting

Responsibilities: Shall include but are not limited to the following:

* Attend meetings as needed

* General School Counselor Assignments

* Make classroom presentations and/or conduct guidance lessons as applicable

* Guide students through individual and group counseling settings

* Coordinate pupil appraisals by compiling data through such sources as conferences with pupils and parents, standardized test scores, academic records, anecdotal records, personal data forms, etc.

* Organizes and administers school testing programs in accordance with district testing policies and individual building or departmental needs.

* Analyze standardized test results and shares findings and recommendations with staff, students, and parents, as appropriate

* Participate in Committee on Special Education & 504 meetings.

* Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of all guidance department functions

* Compiles information required for computerized scheduling of students' courses

* Coordinates all student schedule adjustments

* Participate in building and departmental master scheduling

* Consults with teachers and administrators relative to curriculum offerings best meeting students' abilities, interests, and needs

* Serves as a member of building/district pupil personnel service team

* Serves as member of building level teams including but not limited to; instructional support, crisis management,

* Assists the student and his/her parents in relating the students' interests, aptitudes, and abilities to current and future educational and occupational opportunities and requirements

* Identifies pupils with special needs requiring the services of referral sources

* Support application and process of requests for tutoring of homebound students

* Counsels the student in making appropriate choices of school subjects and courses of study

* Confers with admission personnel, employers, and Armed Forces Recruiters, and visits educational and training institutions, as well as businesses and industries of interest to students

* Directs follow-up surveys on graduates for purposes of research

* Shares appropriate individual pupil data with staff members, with due regard to confidentiality

* Interprets the counseling and guidance services of the school to staff members, parents, and the community

* Advises and assists students in the preparation and processing of college entrance, scholarship, and employment applications

* Arranges informational meetings on college financial aid for parents and students

* Counsels students in the transition from school to employment, or from school to further education

* Conducts all student transfer interviews and processes student registrations, schedules, record requests, etc.

* Completes local, state, and federal statistical reports, surveys, etc. as required

* Plans and implements orientation for students and parents and for high school students

* Serves as liaison between school and community agencies, such as social services, family court, and probation

* Strives to maintain and improve professional competence through participation in professional development opportunities and membership on district committees and in professional organizations

* Assumes other such responsibilities that may be deemed necessary by the building principal or district office administration

* Maintain Data Security as applicable.

* Maintain confidentiality with staff, student and family information

Reports to: Building Principal and Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Services

Salary: Minimum starting salary is $53,969 As per the contract between Victor Central Schools and the Victor Teachers' Association contract

Terms of Employment:

The position of School Counselor is an eleven-month position. The terms established in accordance with the contract between the Superintendent of Schools and the Victor Teachers' Association.

Evaluation:

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by district administration.
