School CounselorVilla of Hope helps youth and families rebuild relationships, recover from trauma and renew Hope for their future.JOB TITLE: School CounselorDEPARTMENT/PROGRAM: EducationSUPERVISOR: Director of EducationGRADE: 81 [ salary range: 20.90-35.60/hr commensurate with education and experience ] ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Exercises full compliance with the Agency's Code of Conduct, all Agency policies and procedures and Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Maintains productive learning environment within the building.
  • Participates in Universal PBIS Process to establish a positive school culture and develop appropriate behavioral program at universal, targeted and intensive levels of intervention.
  • Conducts individual and group education-related counseling and academic advising for residential and day treatment students.
  • Attends, periodically, training and conferences that will enhance the school counselor's ability to function effectively.
  • Transition planning with our community school district partners to ensure successful transitions (admissions and discharges) for youth.
  • Demonstrates, promotes and practices cultural sensitivity towards students and staff through respect and understanding achieved through training and Agency cultural activities.
  • Researches community resources to identify alternatives as part of the educational/vocational plan of students.
  • Assists in the planning and conducting of in-service workshops for the students and education staff.
  • Participates in the intake process, information gathering, placement and planning for the school.
  • Prepares and maintains academic transcripts and course credits for residential and day treatment students.
  • Communicate information regarding academic transcripts, course credits, and progress towards graduation with students, families, and education staff periodically and as needed.
  • Creates educational program for new residential and day treatment students.
  • Works collaboratively with residential social workers and receiving districts to plan appropriate school transitions for residential students upon discharge.
  • Evaluates and records the academic programs and status of each student as needed, including guidance functions of grades, report cards and transcript preparation.
  • Evaluates and recommends instructional materials and/or resources.
  • Works individually with students to help prepare and enroll them in an educational/vocational program upon discharge.
  • Assists social workers, care coordinators and families in the development of student's discharge plans.
  • Attends treatment team meetings as needed.
  • Provides counseling related services as indicated on residential student IEPs, including appropriate documentation and communication of progress as needed.
  • Participates in CSE meetings.
  • Maintains an effective working relationship with all educational, clinical and care coordinator staff members along with community schools and agencies.
  • Provides support/intervention to staff in implementing individual and classroom management program.
  • Works with residential social workers to help register students, as needed, in Greece Central School District and/or REOC.
  • Fulfills all legal requirements as a Mandated Reporter under NYS law and professional ethical standards.
OTHER RESPONSIBLITIES:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree and NYS certification in school counseling preferred. Relevant experience in an educational setting. SPECIAL SKILLS: Must have flexibility, patience and resilience to deal with sudden crisis and deviation from work plans and schedules. Self-motivated, strong verbal and writing skills, attention to detail, problem-solving, flexible and adaptable.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
