Position Summary: School counselors in RPS define, manage, deliver, and assess culturally sustaining and comprehensive school counseling programs to improve student outcomes and increase access to opportunities for all students. RPS School Counselors:
Help students discover their own strengths and interests, learn effective mindsets and behaviors, make personal connections to the content of their coursework, set short-term and long-term goals, and make individualized academic plans that support their long-term goals. Collaborate with students and their parents/caregivers, communities, teachers, and school leaders to improve academic, personal/social, and postsecondary outcomes. Prepare every student for a postsecondary pathway. Deliver the RPS Postsecondary Readiness Curriculum to large groups, classrooms, small groups, and individuals. Consult with teachers, school leaders, and other school personnel to support the implementation of high-quality Social-Emotional Learning experiences and school environments. Conduct short-term counseling sessions with individuals or groups of students, and make mental health, and other, referrals as needed. Advocate for all students within the Minnesota Multi-Tiered System of Support Framework. Analyze data to determine effectiveness of the school counseling program, identify student needs, and ensure equitable outcomes and access to opportunities. Qualifications: A master's degree in school counseling A PELSB license to practice school counseling in MN Demonstrated ability to implement a culturally sustaining and comprehensive school counseling program that improves student outcomes (i.e. Behavior, Attendance, and Grades) and access to opportunities (i.e. access to rigorous academic programming, enrichment or extracurricular activities, ability to achieve aspirations) to achieve educational equity Experience preparing students for postsecondary pathways Experience advocating for all students Experience collaborating with all stakeholders in a student's educational journey Experience consulting with professional colleagues Evidence of using data to evaluate school counseling programs and student outcomes Knowledge of and experience using the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Student Standards to teach the mindsets and behaviors for student success Understanding of the ASCA professional mindsets and behaviors Knowledge and practice of upholding ASCA ethical and professional standards An understanding and record of using counseling theoretical orientations to support student learning Understanding of and ability to implement best practices in serving students with disabilities, multi-language learners, and accelerated learners.
