Job Description:
Directs actions of children and traffic at street intersections and school entrances to ensure safe crossings; monitors and enforces school zone speed limits.This position is a non-supervisory classification and receives limited supervision, consulting with Field Supervisor on unusual situations.Candidates must be able to think and react independently to various situations.Work Hours: Three hours per school day; early morning and afternoon.Specific hours are determined when assigned to schoolOn occasion, may be required to work special assignments.Incumbent works 10 months out of the year.* Patrols street crossings and school entrances during hours when children are going to and coming from school* Directs the actions of children and traffic* Escorts children across the street* Records license numbers of vehicles disregarding the school zone speed limit* Places and removes caution signs and cones* Cautions drivers of speeding vehicles by use of whistle and/or hand signalsThe work requires some physical exertion such as walking, climbing, bending, stooping, stretching, or similar activities.
