Salary: $15.00 HourlyLocation : Palm Springs, FLJob Type: Part TimeJob Number: 0510Department: Public SafetyDivision: PoliceOpening Date: 09/17/2024SUMMARY Employees in this class assist school children at the local schools safely cross the streets, as well as other related assignments as required. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES This is a responsible position, which requires the employee to work independently ensuring the safety of children on their way to and from the local school. Reports to the Support Services Manager. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS An employee in this class must ensure that children cross the street on their way to and from school in a safe manner. The employee must be constantly observant of traffic conditions so as not to put their lives, the lives of children, or the public in harm's way. Must be quick and alert at all times and prepared to handle dangerous situations. The work is performed according to the practices and procedures of the Public Safety Department and the Village of Palm Springs and may include related tasks as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must possess the temperament and ability to communicate well with children. Must be multi-task oriented and very observant. Must be able to work independently. Must be able to react quickly and with good judgment in stressful and/or emergency situations. Dependability is extremely important to this position. The ability to speak English, to communicate and to understand simple oral directions is necessary.EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience working with children will be preferred.PHYSICAL DEMANDSGood vision and hearing acuity, with or without correction, is required. Adequate mobility to quickly cross roads and stop traffic is necessary. Employee must have the stamina to stand for long periods of time in varying and changing weather conditions as well as occasional reaching, bending, stooping and/or running. Employee may occasionally be required to lift up to 50 lbs. HOLIDAYS:We have 13 paid holidays per year. Police Holiday is paid or comp'd at ten (10) hours for holiday except birthday which is at 8 hours. Birthday is an additional paid holiday but must be requested approved by supervisor, and taken in the same week as the birthday occurs.PERSONAL LEAVE TIME:Accrues weekly from hire date at the rate depending on length of time in service. PLT may be used, paid, after six (6) months.
