Position Type: Security/Security - 12-MonthsDate Posted: 9/18/2024Location: Kerrville ISD Primary Purpose: The School Marshal will provide day to day security at their assigned campus and is required to respond to protect students, staff and visitors in an active threat event, using deadly force as necessary. The Marshal will emphasize strategies to prevent school shootings and assist the campus and district administrative team in developing and implementing safety protocols. The Marshal will interact positively with school staff, students, and parents, and will serve as a role model. Experience: Retired Federal, State, or Local Law-Enforcement or Military Police Qualifications: Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED Clear and valid Texas driver's license License to Carry Firearm Permit L3 Psychological Clearance Texas School Marshal Certification Special Knowledge/Skills: Commitment to putting self into a life-threatening situation to protect others Ability to clearly and accurately record information Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Ability to work effectively with youths and adults Ability to communicate effectively Emergency Operations Planning and Implementation Required Training: 80-Hour TCOLE School Marshal Training 16-Hour TCOLE School Marshal Renewal (every two years) Maintain qualification with firearm to be used while on duty as School Marshal Standard Response Protocol (Training of Trainers) Standard Reunification Protocol (Training of Trainers) Stop the Bleed CPR/AED Behavioral Threat Assessment Youth Mental Health First Aid Trauma Informed Care Emergency response trainings and drills with the Kerrville Police Department and Kerr County Sheriff's Office when scheduled Other trainings provided by the Texas School Safety Center, ALERRT, TCOLE and FEMA as needed to ensure knowledge and skills to perform School Marshal responsibilities Major Responsibilities and Duties: Daily Assignment
  • School Marshal's will monitor all campus safety protocols and assure that staff and students are following Kerrville ISD protocols.
  • Closely monitor and patrol the interior and exterior of campus property and address security issues that may arise.
  • Conduct frequent door sweeps to ensure exterior doors are latched and locked. Immediately report any malfunctioning doors or door components to campus administration or to the district maintenance department.
  • Report building and grounds related safety concerns to campus administration or the district maintenance department related to playground equipment, playing fields, windows, electrical components, building
  • Monitor daily student drop off and pick up to ensure campus safety and security.
  • Monitor visitors to the campus to ensure compliance with campus practices.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of campus safety protocols, drills, and after-action review of drills and/or safety related incidents.
  • Interact with students as a mentor and role model during the school day.
  • Work cooperatively with local law enforcement agencies to report and address crimes that occur on campus.
  • Respond swiftly and decisively to an active attack to mitigate student, staff, and visitor injury or death.

Other:Specific hearing and visual requirements; may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions, including violent and armed confrontations; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously Mental Demands:Maintain emotional control under stress; possible prolonged hours Tools/Equipment Used: Provided by School Marshal: Concealed handgun and holster that provides adequate retention to secure the handgun, frangible duty ammunition approved by TCOLE. A $3,000 yearly stipend will be paid by the district to the School Marshal to pay for expenses Provided by School District: two-way radio, alarm system and other security equipment, fire extinguisher, and standard office equipment including computer and peripheralsSalary: $55,000 $3,000 Equipment Stipend
