NoPosition Summary Information Position Summary The Austin Peay State University Department of Theatre and Dance is seeking to hire an additional tenure-track, nine-month, full-time faculty for a Musical Theatre Generalist at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applications are now open for this position which begins on August 1, 2025.The Theatre and Dance program is one of the fastest growing programs on the APSU campus. The Department of Theatre & Dance offers a Bachelor of Arts degree with concentrations in Acting, Design, or Dance and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with concentrations in Acting, Dance, Design, or Musical Theatre. In addition, minors in Theatre and Dance are popular choices for many students. A main stage, seating 200, as well as a laboratory black box theatre houses five-six productions each academic year. Additionally, the program is supported by two spacious dance studios and rehearsal spaces for acting, directing and voice work which may also function as alternative performance spaces. The department also houses an experimental space for student directors, and a recording studio with capability for voice-over, cast recordings, motion capture, and on-camera reel production.Austin Peay State University's Department of Theatre & Dance launched its Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees with concentrations in Acting/Directing, Musical Theatre, Design, and Dance in Fall of 2015. Our main stage season typically includes plays, musicals, and dance concerts. - Teach Theatre/Musical Theatre related courses which may include Private Voice Lessons, Musical Theatre History, Dance for Musical Theatre, Musical Theatre Workshop, Voice for the Actor, Diction, Musical Theory, Introduction to Theatre or other related courses as assigned;
- Serve as Musical Director, Director, or Choreographer for Musicals during the production season;
- Demonstrate a willingness and an ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of the institution and the department;
- Advise and mentor students effectively and efficiently throughout their time in the program and help majors persist toward graduation; and
- Serve effectively on Departmental and University committees and other appropriate functions that assist in University governance; and
- Show a commitment to continued recruiting efforts as the program continues to grow.

- Knowledge of contemporary musical theatre practices.

Physical Requirements
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- A terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in Theatre, Musical Theatre, or related discipline required with a minimum of two (2) years teaching experience in higher education preferred.
- Evidence of potential ability in academic assignment and/or scholarly and creative achievement, and/or professional contributions and activities.
- Evidence of good character, mature attitude, and professional integrity.
- A background check will be required of the successful candidate.
