SCHOOL NURSE JOB DESCRIPTIONPOSITION TITLE: School Nurse SUPERVISES: N/A JOB GOAL: To provide health education and maintain a climate of health and well-being in assigned schools. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. 2. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama. 3. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred but not required. 4. Possesses valid state driver's license. 5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board might find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Administration SALARY: To be determined commensurate with local salary matrix, credentials, and experience. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for carrying out the Phenix City Public School's health program in assigned schools. Schedules and conducts screenings and assessments to detect problems in vision, hearing and scoliosis. Documents and refers to students with deficiencies in accordance with Alabama Department of Public Health regulations. Establishes and maintains contact with community agencies and clinics responsible for providing health care for students. Learns and stays familiar with their policies and procedures. Investigates referrals regarding individual health problems. Refers to appropriate agencies for treatment. Schedules and conducts home visits when appropriate. Works with principals and teachers to plan and carry out first aid and safety education programs within assigned schools. Advises and assists teachers in obtaining materials and resources to enhance school health education programs. Assists in carrying out policies and procedures for control of communicable diseases within assigned schools. Conducts inspections and evaluations. Furnishes information to school officials and parents. Maintains required records. Compiles and submits periodic reports and evaluations regarding status of program within assigned schools. Reviews immunization records, notifies parents of delinquencies and provides updates as needed according to Alabama Department of Public Health guidelines and state law. Participates in school staff inservices and professional development activities. Serves as a member of the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) team when the primary services for the student is health related. Provide health related services to students and assist local school officials in the event of school accidents and emergencies. Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor or Superintendent. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
