Job DetailsJob Location Hixson Middle - Webster Groves, MO 2024-2025 School YearPrimary Objective - The school nurse is responsible for carrying out the district's health program, as defined by district policies and the Missouri Department of Health regulations. The primary role of the school nurse is to support student learning. The nurse accomplishes this by implementing strategies that promote student and staff health and safety. The school nurse needs expertise in pediatric, public health and mental health nursing and must possess strong health promotion, assessment, and referral skills. School nurses also need to have knowledge of laws in education and health care that impact children in the school setting. Major Areas of Accountability:
- Performs skilled nursing procedures as necessary in a safe, competent and efficient manner.
- Administers medications in a safe and therapeutic way according to physicians' orders and consistent with school policy and state laws and regulations.
- Maintains student health records in accordance with school policy and state laws and regulations.
- Maintains strict confidentiality related to student and staff issues.
- Uses effective written, verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
- Collaborates with school professionals, parents, and caregivers to meet the health, developmental and educational needs of students.
- Complies with all WGSD Board policies and procedures
Qualifications:
- Must hold a current/valid Registered Nurse license.
- BSN preferred (from accredited Nursing School)
- Experience working in a school setting is preferred
