Certified School Nurse (11-month position)Full time To provide services in accordance with health and safety regulations to all students and staff and to administer medications and first aid when necessary. QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED):
- NJ State Department of Education School Nurse Certification
- NJ State Registered Nurse License
- BS or higher in Nursing
- First Aid Certified
- CPR Certified
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain/update student health records to comply with state mandates.
- Conduct state required health screening programs.
- Interpret to students and parents the nature and significance of any health problem incurred in an examination.
- Work collaboratively with school physicians in carrying out yearly physical exams and sports physicals for students.
- Report to parents any referral for further diagnosis or evaluation as deemed necessary by the school physician.
- Authorize exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious or contagious diseases.
- Render appropriate first aid and treat medical problems of students and staff based on policies and procedures in manual.
- Report to parents, school personnel, physician, clinics, and other agencies (county/state) on medical matters when necessary.
- Advise staff on the modification of the educational program according to the individual's Healthcare Plan.
- Conduct in-service programs on Blood Borne Pathogen and Universal Precautions at the beginning of every school year.
- Assist school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in school and in implementing the school's Blood Borne Pathogen Control Plan when necessary.
- Conduct other in-service programs (first-aid, CPR) as needed.
- Oversee staff compliance of school personnel health regulations (yearly physical, Hepatitis B vaccine, Mantoux testing)
- Provide vinyl gloves, band aids and germicidal wipes for every classroom.
- Attend committee meetings and conferences regarding health services or health issues when appropriate.
- Prepare and submit all yearly reports to local and state Boards of Health.
- Review policies and procedures in procedure manual, annually, with the School Physician and amend them as necessary.
- Administer medications to students during the school day, as needed, with records of parent and physician authorizations on file.
- Complete a monthly report to Administration.
- Keep a list (Medic-Alert) of all students with health problems and distribute copies to all faculty. Update frequently.
- Attend staff orientation prior to the beginning of school year and Back to School Night.
- Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings, program meetings.
- Attend and participate in all Professional Development and Safety Care training workshops.
- Attend Case Reviews with Consulting Psychiatrists, Administrators, and Clinicians when indicated by the individual needs of the students.
- Comply with all policies and procedures of Spectrum360.
- Follow all recommendations of administration.
- Follow all directives of the Executive Director/CEO and Principal, correcting areas relating to performance identified by immediate supervisor.
