HOLLISTER SCHOOL DISTRICTJOB TITLE SCHOOL NURSEJOB SUMMARY: Under direction of the Director of Special Education and Health Services, the School Nurse is responsible for participating in the development and implementation of all district and State health programs at assigned schools. This includes monitoring the budget, providing training to staff and students regarding health issues, implementing all mandated health services such as screenings, immunization checks, dispensing of medications, coordination of the home and hospital program, and completion of developmental/health histories for special education students. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinates and supervises all screening programs. Evaluates and provides follow-up for students with suspected or known health problems. Informs staff of specific health problems of individual students and provides consultation. Confers with parents and/or students about possible health problems. Establishes contact with physicians or other outside agencies involved with suspected or known heath problems. Informs parents, in writing, of all school health screening results, when results warrant such communication. Provides first aide supplies and instructions to students and staff. Performs health and developmental evaluation of students referred to special education. Follows-up suspected cases of chronic or communicable diseases. Assists in maintaining immunization records. Conducts periodic inspections for communicable diseases, as necessary. Assists in kindergarten registration, as necessary. Consults with school staff in the area of health education. Provides training to district staff in performing medical procedures, dispensing of medication, and CPR/First Aid. Provides health education materials upon request. Provides specific classroom instruction on health subjects such as dental health, menstruation, and others, upon request. Consults with district staff in developing health education programs in areas such as drugs, V.D., etc., upon request. Assists in coordinating the Home and Hospital Program. Consults with parents and community groups as necessary and upon request. Keeps the Director of Special Education and Health Services informed of all aspects of the Health Services Program. Maintains all necessary health records and participates in completing all state required reports. Performs other appropriate duties as assigned. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Training and Experience: Possession of a valid School Nurse Services California credential. Possession of an earned Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in educational health and welfare, school nursing, or public health nursing programs. Valid Registered Nurse License. Two years of experience as a school nurse, in addition to one year of experience performing specialized services in student health and welfare programs. Knowledge: Must possess a high level of knowledge in normal and abnormal developmental health; possess highly developed skills in oral and written communication, observation and consultation, time management, and current health/nursing practices. Abilities: Provide specialized resource support and coordination of a comprehensive student health and welfare program; analyze and assess student health and welfare needs and offer recommendations pertaining to the revision, addition, or deletion of health and welfare service programs and activities; coordinate and participate in the evaluation of student health and welfare service programs and activities; service as a resource to site and district personnel, students, parents and others concerning health and welfare problems and concerns of an unusual nature; communicate effectively in oral and written form; understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accountability controls; establish and maintain effective organization, community, and public relationships; ability to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical Effort/Working Environment: Light physical effort; occasional standing or walking; periodic handling of light weight parcels or supplies. Indoor work environment. A pre-placement physical examination may be required. Licenses and Certifications: A valid Class 3 California Driver's License and evidence of appropriate automobile insurance based on DMV regulations may be required. A valid First Aid and CPR Certificate is required. This position is temporary from the date of hire through the end of the 2025-26 school year. Interviews may take place immediately following the posting date. This position will remain open until filled. Possession of a valid School Nurse Services California credential. Possession of Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in educational health and welfare, school nursing, or public health nursing programs. Valid Registered Nurse License. Two years of experience as a school nurse preferred, in addition to one year of experience performing specialized services in student health and welfare programs. Must possess a high level of knowledge in developmental health; possess highly developed skills in oral and written communication, observation and consultation, time management, and current health/nursing practices.
