Job Description:

Congressional School has an immediate opening for a School Nurse Substitute. The School Nurse Substitute works with school and camp administration to provide a healthy and safe environment for all students, campers, and staff. The School Nurse Substitute administers primary care nursing to ill or injured students in addition to providing assessment, examination, referral and follow-up according to policies and procedures. The nurse will also administer medications as prescribed, provide first aid as necessary, and document care according to school policies and procedures. Traditional hours, when call upon, will be Monday-Friday, between 8:00 am - 6:00 pm (depending on shift). All Congressional School employees are required to present proof of COVID-19 vaccination. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide nursing and first aid care to ill or injured students, campers, and faculty/staff
  • Evaluate students' physical condition and refer them to appropriate resources as needed
  • Serve as primary resource for health-related questions and issues
  • Develop policies, procedures and work standards for school and camp health programs
  • Monitor compliance of school and camp health program with federal, state and local laws, regulations and policies
  • Maintain health records of immunizations for students and campers
  • Coordinate school and community health activities and serves as a liaison health professional between home, school and community
  • Provide professional development on health-related topics for students and staff
  • Promote control of communicable diseases
  • Provide ongoing health counseling with students, parents, school personnel and health agencies
  • Use existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students
  • Manage school health records in accordance with all federal, state, and county regulations
  • Maintain clinic facilities to provide privacy and isolation in the Lower/Middle School, Early Childhood Program, and Camp Programs
  • Ensure best practices are used to comply with licensing standards
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children and their families
  • Maintain a friendly and positive work environment which allows students to express concerns in a confidential, non- judgmental, culturally sensitive manner
  • Order appropriate first aid supplies to support physical education, extracurricular sports, intramural sports, laboratory classrooms, field trips, office, maintenance, and classrooms, including the special need areas of three Early Childhood Program classes
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • CPR and MAT instructor certification or willing to obtain CPR instructor certification
  • Experience working with children from 6 weeks to 14 years of age
  • Knowledge of current trends, principles, and practices in school health and nursing
  • Knowledge of health-related support organizations and resources
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment and a commitment to cultural competency
  • Familiarity with federal and local laws relating to health and social issues
  • Quick learner, adaptable, and committed to acting in the best interest of students
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • An ability to work in a joyful, collegial and collaborative environment
  • A sense of humor, warm personality, and growth mindset
