SUBSITUTE SCHOOL NUTRITION POSITIONDescription: The SNP assistant works under the supervision of the School Nutrition Program Manager in the school assigned.
Job Summary: 1. Follow oral or written instructions as required. 2. Prepares nutritious acceptable food to provide a pattern for healthy eating, improve student health, provide energy for optimal learning and increase student participation in school nutrition.
- Follow procedures to conserve nutrients when preparing and cooking.
- Cook foods following batch method so that all customers receive quality products. Follow standardized recipes, measuring or weighing ingredients as directed.
- Follow sanitation and safety procedures.
- Wear clean gloves during preparation of raw foods and when handling any cooked food that does not require further cooking.
3. Serve foods throughout each meal period that are attractive, palatable and safe.
- Serve out all product in a pan before replenishing the line with a fresh pan of food.
- Remove product from serving line when quality has deteriorated or has been held to long.
- Monitor temperature of food on serving lines to ensure that no food approaches danger zone temperatures.
- Follow appropriate procedures to correct any detected problems in safe food temperature.
- Wear clean gloves when serving any food that is directly handled.
4. Portion food to meet nutritional needs of students and to fulfill regulations for fund reimbursement.
- Serve the assigned amounts of food to total the minimum required for each age group.
- Serve all require meal components planned.
5. Implement sanitation techniques that will provide a sanitary and attractive work place to maintain above 90% scores on health inspections and prevent transfer of bacteria to food.
- Exhibits sanitary standards of personal hygiene and grooming.
- Wash hands upon arrival at work, between preparations, and at all other appropriate times.
- Follow procedures to prevent cross contamination during preparation and service of food.
- Employ sanitation guidelines in washing dishes and all small equipment.
- Employ sanitation guidelines for cleaning large equipment as scheduled.
- Keep work area neat and clean by cleaning as you work.
- Sweep and mop kitchen daily as assigned.
- Clean dining tables and chairs daily and between meal sessions as assigned.
- Remove trash and garbage frequently to avoid build-up.
6. Employs efficient and safe work habits so that productivity is increased and all aspects of the job are completed within the allotted time.
- Attends work daily so that teamwork of staff runs smoothly.
- Begin work at assigned time in the morning and after the lunch break.
- Wear safety equipment provided.
- Employ safety procedures in use of all equipment.
- Utilize work simplification techniques.
- Implement procedures and directions given through training and instructions from manager.
- Complete daily assigned work and assist fellow staff as needed - then report to the manager for other duties.
- Assists with checking-in food shipments into the school, signing invoices only after each order has been verified.
- Establish a cooperative and pleasant work attitude with manager and fellow workers.
- Provide frequent preventive maintenance and care of equipment to prevent breakdowns.
- Record all foods used in preparation, cooking, and serving on the assigned tracking forms to facilitate required management records.
7. Support the nutrition program and over-all school program as a team player to foster good communication between students, faculty, parents, and nutrition staff.
- Treat all customers with consistently pleasant comments, body language and attitude.
- Participate in nutrition education activities in the cafeteria and classroom as needed.
- Help with promotions and theme days in the cafeteria and school.
- Comprehend oral and written instructions and follow through in a cooperative manner.
- Attend and participates at in-service days in their entirety.
- Participate in School Food Service Association activities on the local (and district levels when feasible) to achieve professional growth.
Qualifications: Be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, sit, climb and lift items of approximately 40 pounds unassisted throughout the workday and 50 pounds with assistance and work for extended periods in varying degrees of temperature and humidity. High School Diploma or GED certificate required. Completion of O.N.E. or equivalent training in basic food preparation and sanitation. Complete and pass an annual physical before the first working day of each school year.
