School of Public Health: Climate and Health Associate/Full Professors

Full-Time, Tenured or Tenure Earning

Applications will be accepted until positions are filled.

The School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for tenured or tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Associate/Full Professor. This recruitment is part of a major strategic initiative (i.e., the Climate and Health Initiative) in the UAB School of Public Health to expand research capacity in climate and public health. The Climate and Health Initiative is hosted by the School of Public Health and is committed to engaging with local, national, and global communities and stakeholders, collaborating with partners from diverse sectors to identify and address the most pressing issues related to climate and health.

We seek outstanding scholars with expertise and experience in interdisciplinary public health research and teaching with respect to the following areas: climate, climate change and effects on the environment, communities, and vulnerable populations, with significant implications for public health. We especially welcome candidates who are using innovative methodologies, including but not limited to AI/ML, big data, controlled experimentation, field methods, population-based methods, pricing and regulation, and/or modeling approaches. Candidates with expertise in climate and health within public health are especially encouraged to apply, as preference will be given to those candidates with expertise in epidemiology, health behavior, health policy and organization including health economics, global health, and biostatistics. The ideal candidate will have a strong research record, promising research agenda, and a record of successful interdisciplinary collaborations to significantly advance research in climate and health. Opportunities exist to interface with a cadre of well-established academic scientists carrying out federally funded climate change-related research across the university and beyond.

Founded in 1978, the UAB School of Public Health has grown to 80 full-time faculty and 1,234 students. In 2022, the school had more than $38 million in research funding and has been ranked in the top 20 NIH-funded Schools of Public Health for the last 10 years.

Diversity is one of the school's values and strengths, with 45% of students identifying as a member of an underrepresented racial/ethnic group and 16% identifying as a first generation college student. As a school with a continually growing diverse student body, we encourage applications from individuals with a commitment to mentoring underrepresented students. In 2020, the School of Public Health received the Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.
