St. Mary's Parish is a vibrant Catholic congregation located in Historic Annapolis, Maryland
serving over 5,000 families. St. Mary's Parish includes St. Mary's Church, St. John Neumann Mission Church, St. Mary's Elementary School and St. Mary's High School. The parish is seeking to fill the position of School President with a dynamic leader to guide the education of over 1,300 students in grades pre-K-12.
Purpose:
The President serves as the school's leader and ambassador, with responsibilities focused on institutional advancement, strategy, sustainability, organizational structure, community and spiritual leadership. The President delegates responsibilities for daily academic and co-curricular affairs to the Principals.
The President is appointed by the Pastor of St. Mary's in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Baltimore. In keeping with the bylaws of St. Mary's Schools, the President has a direct reporting relationship to the Pastor of St. Mary's and the Archdiocese of Baltimore Superintendent of Catholic Schools, and is also accountable to the School Board.
Specific Responsibilities
Strategic Vision and Leadership
- In collaboration with the Pastor, the School Board and the Archdiocese of Baltimore, develop and implement organizational plans and goals that advance the mission of the schools, in coordination with St. Mary's Church.
- Provide overall direction, motivation and guidance to school administrators, faculty, and support staff to work to their fullest potential; take the lead role in the creation of a Catholic-faith centered culture of excellence and accountability; and maintain and strengthen a “one school” mission for Saint Mary's School.
- Direct supervision and evaluation of the Principals, Admissions Directors and other school leadership staff as appropriate.
- Set strategic enrollment goals and actively recruit families to the school, the parish and the Catholic faith.
- Embody, manifest, and advocate Catholic faith and spirituality while promoting a culture of inclusion and diversity that promotes the social/emotional wellness of all students.
- Effectively communicate with parents and other constituents so that the mission, philosophy, educational goals, and other aspects of the Parish and School are clearly articulated.
- Oversee the facilitation and coordination of spiritual, academic, and community programs in the Elementary and High School.
Institutional Advancement/Board Relations
- Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with School Board and ensure open communication about the measurement of performance against stated milestones and goals.
- Collaborate with the Pastor and the Board in developing strategy, plans and policy for the school. Execute strategic plans and provide regular reporting to the Pastor and the Board.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director of Advancement and the Director of Development in the development and administration of all special fundraising campaigns and actively engage in building and maintaining relationships with donors and prospective donors. Increase available tuition assistance for families.
- Work with the Alumni Relations and Events Coordinator to actively engage with Alumni.
- Represent St. Mary's to the school's external constituencies, including individual donors, businesses, parishes and institutional partners, alumni, community organizations and others through off-campus meetings and speaking engagements with existing and new audiences.
Finance/Operations
- In coordination with the parish's business office, develop the annual operating budget of St. Mary's School.
- In coordination with the Pastor and parish's business office, develop a master plan and oversee the financial status of the school including development of long and short-range financial plans, monitoring the budget and ensuring sound financial controls are in place.
- Monitor the selection and hiring of qualified persons to serve as members of the faculty and administration; attend meetings of the faculty and staff as needed and ensure that the policies of the Archdiocese of Baltimore are understood and followed.
- Monitor matters regarding employment of the school faculty and staff with the Principals and Human Resources Payroll and Benefits Administrator to ensure that all employment matters, including recruitment, retention, and dismissal of personnel; salaries and contracts; job assignments; performance evaluations are in compliance with Archdiocesan policy and relevant State and Federal laws.
- Represent the school in its relations with the Archdiocese of Baltimore and with local, state, regional, and national educational organizations, and accrediting agencies.
Academic Oversight
- Cultivate and support an environment and culture for 21st Century teaching and learning to flourish.
- In collaboration with the Principals, monitor all programs of the school including curriculum. grading, assessment, reporting to parents, and disciplinary policies and standards of conduct.
- Ensure that all employees and volunteers comply with the Archdiocese of Baltimore regarding the maintenance of a safe and secure environment.
Qualifications
- An appreciation and passion for the mission of St. Mary's Schools with a deep-rooted commitment to living the Catholic faith and embracing her values.
- Experience in visualizing and developing short and long-term plans to honor the school's culture and traditions while anticipating future needs.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible senior leadership experience in Catholic education (preferred), business, and/or nonprofit sectors. Minimum of a Masters Degree in Education Leadership, Organizational Management or related field.
- Experience in Broad knowledge of overall operations of a successful and integrated organization including finance, budget development, board relations, admissions, fundraising, marketing and care and maintenance of physical plant.
- Proven experience in revenue generation and the ability and willingness to assist in fundraising, and development, including identification, cultivation, stewardship and face-to-face solicitation of donors; capital campaign experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build, unify, foster and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external constituencies including administrators, faculty, Board members, volunteer leaders, students, and donors.
- Ability to articulate a Catholic philosophy of education that recognizes the need for appropriate programs to serve a range of students' needs, interests, and enrichment and foster a culture that serves this goal.
- Excellent public speaking skills complemented by a demonstrated ability to interact with diverse personalities and situations with ease and grace.
- Superior communication skills to express, orally and in writing, St. Mary's mission, vision, and goals with clarity, passion, and persuasion.
- Self-confidence and humility combined with a sense of humor and a collaborative management style.
- Some travel required; must be available to attend events after work hours or on the weekends as needed.
