Bond Health - RN (School Nurse) Needed in ManhattanMonday-Friday Weekly Pay!SUMMARYUnder general supervision, is responsible for providing medical treatment, first aid, emergency care and medications for students in the school programs, under the direction of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with company policies, the regulations and requirementsof applicable regulatory agencies and the standards of the profession.Participates in consultative process with parents and team members.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe duties and responsibilities of the Licensed Practical Nurse - Children's Services will include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Serves and participates as a member of interdisciplinary team.
  • Is responsible for assisting Registered Nurse in coordinating and following through on provisions of health care services for students in program.
  • Keeps progress notes under supervision of registered nurse for each student and summarizes for quarterly, semi-annual and annual reviews.
  • Provides regular and PRN health care to students receiving services as instructed by registered nurse.
  • Provides direct hygiene and health instruction to staff, students receiving services and families as required.
  • Handles control of communicable diseases and infections through identification and assessment.
  • Reports to consulting physician and Infection Control Nurse. Implements appropriate protective and preventive measures.
  • Provides staff training in regard to infection control regularly and as needed.
  • Provides first aid to students in need of immediate care, with referral to registered nurse, private physician or outside emergency services as necessary.
  • Monitors required staff health records and provides tests in accordance with regulatory agency requirements.
  • Keeps up to date and accurate records of examinations, immunizations, illnesses, accidents and other pertinent data of students via progress notes.
  • Administers medications as prescribed. Supervises secured storage of medications.
  • Refers all consults and diagnostic reports to registered nurse for review.
  • Transports students to appointments as necessary.
  • Maintains Nursing Office.
  • Orders supplies and equipment as required.
  • Visits students at home as requested by Director or designee.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in Nursing Services field.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, employees, students, families and outside contacts
  • Must be able to maintain the strictest confidentiality of students and staff records
  • Knowledge of equipment typically used by persons receiving services, including wheelchairs, walkers, pronestanders, laptrays and adaptive devices.
  • Ability to analyze problems and determine corrective actions.
  • Must be willing to work at various program sites
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing
  • At least one year of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the delivery of community-based health services to individuals with developmental disabilities.

  • Work may be performed under pressure; may be mentally and physically fatiguing. May be very stressful.
  • Regular exposure to a variety of physical working conditions related to providing personal care assistance to students i.e. suctioning, tube feedings, trach care, colostomy bags, catherization, etc.
  • Need to take special precautions in the handling of body fluids.
