Position Type: Security/Security - 12-Months Date Posted: 1/18/2024 Location: Central Office LAWRENCE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRlPTION JOB TITLE: School Resource Officer/Campus Police MS Code 37-7-321 JOB GOAL: The primary purpose of the School Resource Officer/Campus Police is to work closely with school district staff, students and parents, members of the community, and external agencies to create and maintain a safe and orderly environment that supports the mission of the school district. RESPONSIBLE TO: Superintendent of Education DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Enforce state and local laws and ordinances. MS Code 37-7-323
- Investigate criminal incidents per LCSD policies and procedures.
- Make appropriate referrals to juvenile authorities or other governmental agencies.
- Work to prevent juvenile delinquency through close contact and positive relationships with students
- Develop school level crime prevention programs.
- Conduct security inspection of facilities.
- Establish and maintain a close partnership with school administrators in order to provide a safe and orderly school environment
- Assist school officials with their efforts to enforce School Board policies.
- Ensure school administrators safety while they are conducting searches which may involve weapons, controlled substances, or if a student is in an emotional state of mind.
- Assist in review and revision of all Crisis Response Plans.
- Be visible within the school communities.
- Attend and participate in school functions and school related activities.
- Be responsible for developing and implementing security plans and supervising security officers at all (Home) extra-curricular activities.
- Build working relationships with school staff, students, and parent groups.
- Work with teachers to design and present law-related topics and the role oflaw enforcement.
- Initiate interaction with students in the classroom and general areas of the school building.
- Promote the profession of law enforcement.
- Increase the visibility and accessibility of law enforcement to the school community.
- Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS: The qualifications listed are representative of the knowledge, skills and ability required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Education/Experience/Skills:
- High School Diploma or the equivalent.
- Minimum age of twenty-three.
- Minimum of three (3) years law enforcement work experience prior to assignment.
- Graduate of the Basic Law Enforcement Officer Training Program. MS Code 37-7- 321 (2)
- Graduate of the MDE School Resource Officer Training Program. MS Code 37-7-321 (2)
- Strong interpersonal skills as well as written and oral communication skills are essential for this position.
- Confidentiality, maturity, and professionalism at all times are essential for this position.
- Basic computer skills to perform essential functions of this position.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports of activities for the school district.
- A valid Mississippi driver' s license is required.
- Ability to understand and follow written or oral instructions.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents, instruction manuals , policies and procedures.
- Excellent communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively and efficiently.
- The ability to identify and resolve, in a courteous and professional manner, complex issues and problems while adhering to an appropriate policy and procedure.
Continuing Education/Requirements: This position is required to have 40 hours (annually) of MDE sanctioned in-service training. SALARY: $35,000.00/Annually EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the job description. EMPLOYMENT: 220 Days EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Exempt
