School Resource Officer / Patrol Deputy - Sheriff's Office JobID: 1049Position Type:Support StaffDate Posted:1/3/2023Location:Central OfficeDate Available:Open Until FilledClosing Date:Open Until FilledAdditional Information: Show/HideBandera ISD in partnership with the Bandera County Sheriff's Office, is searching for a licenced, trained and knowledgeable law enforcement officer to serve as School Resource Officer / Patrol Duty Officer to assist in the protection of students, staff, and the community on BISD campuses.OBJECTIVE:To ensure a safe learning environment in the Bandera ISD by providing police protection on the Bandera ISD Campuses / To provide law enforcement for the county.ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:1. Reports to: Sheriff, through the chain of command.2. Directs: NoneGENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:Protect the lives and property of the students, teachers, staff members and visitors of the Bandera ISD at assigned Bandera ISD campus. Patrol and provide law enforcement, detection and crimeprevention under the law of the county, state and the federal government. Carry out special assignments in the field of law enforcement; provide reports of assignments and/or related work asrequired.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS SRO DUTIES (to include but not limited to):* Respond to law enforcement calls for service on assigned campus during the course of the regular school day.* Maintain the peace, address any breach of the peace, and investigate criminal activity and accidents occurring at Bandera ISD Home campus(es) and other campuses as requestedby mutual agreement between the Bandera ISD Superintendent and the Bandera County Sheriff's Office.* The SRO's shall not act as school disciplinarians; however, if the principal believes an incident is a violation of the law and may require law enforcement action, the principalmay contact the SRO and the SRO shall then determine whether law enforcement action is appropriate.* Assist with the prevention of property loss due to theft and vandalism.* Accompany Bandera ISD campus personnel on student welfare visits.* Maintain visible presence during the Bandera ISD day in order to assist the BANDERA ISD administration with general public safety services during Bandera ISD hours.* Engage in all law enforcement activities arising from the enforcement of criminal laws. Violations of Bandera ISD policies and rules that are strictly non-criminal in nature willonly be assigned to the SRO for investigation at the specific direction of the Bandera ISD Superintendent. If requested, the SRO will intervene in and investigate alleged violationsof Bandera ISD policies and rules.* If requested by Bandera ISD campus principal and/or other Bandera ISD administration, assist with mediation of disputes on campus which may include working with students tohelp solve disputes in a non-physical manner.* Provide traffic control, as requested by the assigned Bandera ISD principal or designee.* Assist with the Home Campus' Emergency Operation Plan and other safety projects including emergency drills, emergency response and after-action reviews when requestedby the Home Campus principal.* At the request of the principal assist him in identifying situations of school protocol, which have the potential for becoming dangerous situations and help develop action plansin an attempt to prevent or minimize their impact.* Provide training for Bandera ISD Staff as agreed upon by the Bandera ISD Superintendent and the Sheriff.* Speak to classes as requested by Bandera ISD Staff regarding law enforcement, search and seizure, drugs, motor vehicle laws, and/or other law enforcement areas.* Maintain the confidentiality of student records as required by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.* Provide assistance to law enforcement officers with outside investigations concerning students attending BANDERA ISD Schools.* Report any law enforcement actions to the Home Campus Principal as soon as practicable and in compliance with the law.* Take appropriate law enforcement action against intruders and unwanted guest(s) at the Bandera ISD Home Campus(es.)* Confer with the applicable Home Campus Principal before requesting additional law enforcement assistance on campus, when practicable.* As requested by Bandera ISD Superintendent or his/her designee, attend conferences with students, parents, and faculty members in order to assist them with problems of lawenforcement or crime prevention.* Develop a long-range plan for security at the Home Campus, incorporating input from Bandera ISD Staff.* Maintain detailed and accurate records of the operation of the SRO Program as directed by the Program Supervisor.* As requested by the Home Campus Principal, assist with resolution of a problem with hall monitors or other monitoring duties.* Comply with School District policies and procedures while acting as an SRO.* Perform other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the School Superintendent.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PATROL DEPUTY DUTIES (to include but not limited to):* Investigates crimes against persons and property;* Provide law enforcement service and assistance for county;* Gather and preserve evidence, dust for latent prints and take photographs at crime scene;* Prepares reports and maintains records;* Testifies in court when required;* Enforces county, state, federal law and all written regulations;* Respond to calls for assistance, work on assigned shifts or specialized law enforcement functions;* Make ethical decisions that conform to applicable laws, office policy, regulations, etc.* Conduct accurate, thorough and complete investigations;* Review cases and reports of deputies;* Regular attendance is required;* Lift 10-20lbs frequently and 20-50lbs occasionally;* Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:* Basic computer skills/knowledge;* Communication skills, both verbal and written with proper use of English grammar;* Knowledge of Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedures;* Weapons proficiency.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:* Fitness level to perform job functions;* Visual acuity correctable to 20/20 and normal hearing ranges;* Ability to lift 10-20lbs frequently and 20-50lbs occasionally;* Ability to work shift hours, weekends, holidays and be on call;* Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:* High school diploma or GED equivalent;* Valid Texas Driver's license with an insurable driving record;* Must meet TCOLE requirements for School Resource Officer within 180 days ofemployment;* Must possess Peace Officer License for the State of Texas;This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and the employee and issubject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change.
