- Minimum of 5 years of experience in law enforcement, military, public safety, or security
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Strong people and process management skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive information
- Ability to interact with students, staff, and parents positively and professionally
- Successfully complete training and exhibit skills learned in training which may include but are not limited to knowledge of school rules, decision making, equity, trauma informed interactions, health safety (first-aid, CPR, AED, NARCAN, trauma kits, etc.), fire alarm and evacuation protocols, building safety and evacuation protocols, traffic control, confidentiality, searches, security camera footage review, camera system management, radio use, and de-escalation techniques including physical separation of people during physical fights.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the security, safety, and well-being of all personnel, visitors and the premises.
- Interacts with students and visitors with respect and dignity.
- Communicates effectively with students, staff and visitors.
- Be visible and assist in maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
- Assist in de-escalating student conflict situations.
- Intervene in situations that pose a threat to students, staff, visitors or school safety.
- Patrol, inspect and monitor assigned areas of the school buildings, grounds and parking lots to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law, school board policies and/or school rules, monitor and ensure traffic flow and identify potential safety concerns.
- Secures premises and personnel at entry points, screening visitors and actively monitor facility to ensure perimeter security.
- Inspect and manage camera systems and operations.
- Detects, investigates and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.
- Monitor 2-way radio traffic and respond appropriately.
- Notifies the administrative staff, police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations.
- Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.
- Assists with planning, coordinating and working special and extracurricular events and projects.
- Assists administrators with the enforcement of all school rules and managing student behavior.
- Assists with investigations as directed and assigned by administration.
