TITLE: SCHOOL SECRETARY - NEW RECOVERY HIGH SCHOOLThe new regional recovery high school is a joint initiative of Waynesboro and Augusta County Public Schools. The school, which is set to open in Fall 2025, is funded by a grant from the Virginia Department of Education. Recovery high schools provide a structured and supportive academic environment for students seeking recovery from substance use and co-occurring disorders, a critical resource for addressing the challenges faced by young people and their families.The recovery high school represents a groundbreaking step for Waynesboro and Augusta County, addressing a critical need in the region. The school is poised to become a beacon of hope and support for students and families navigating the journey of recovery.PRIMARY FUNCTION:To assist the Director of the New Recovery High School in order that the latter may devote maximum attention to administering an effective instructional program.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in progressively responsible clerical and stenographic work.Thorough knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, equipment, and secretarial techniques. (Computer skills required.)Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.Excellent human relation and communication skills.Ability to work independently in the absence of specific instruction.Ability to meet the public effectively.REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.REPORTS TO: Director of the New Recovery High SchoolESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:To perform all secretarial and clerical duties pertaining to the administrative functions of the school office.Receives and routes all incoming telephone calls; providing responses to public inquiries.Creates a courteous and professional office environment.Talks with student encountering problem and resolves problem or directs student to appropriate school employee.Communicates pertinent information to students, staff, parents and community as directed by the building administrator.Maintains calendar of school events.To record and verify all daily student attendance records, including discipline entries within the division's database system.Prepare information for purchase orders and maintain records and receipts for submission to the LEA finance department as required by division financial management guidelines.To record and report accidents to the appropriate school division office. Assist in completing required paperwork for accident reports.To record and prepare reports and letters regarding student discipline. Maintain accurate updates in the student information database. Receives and disseminates information and other communication from students' home schools and between schools.To keep the office and office bulletin boards attractive and up-to-date.To receive and distribute all consumable supplies used in the school as required by the director.To keep accurate records of attendance for all employees and to make monthly reports to the LEA payroll department.Access student information from division databaseOrganize and distribute incoming and outgoing mail for the buildingAssist the director in arrangements of substitutes as designated.To perform other duties as assigned by the director.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSValid Virginia State driver's licenseLANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to speak or otherwise communicate effectively in the English Language. Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret documents, schedules and procedure manuals in English as determined by an assessment. The salary reflected is not the approved salary for FY26.
