Centra Healthcare Solutions is seeking an experiencedSpecial Education Teacher (SPED)that is certified in the state of practice to work in a school setting. This is a contract, full time position.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Plan, prepare and provide small group and 1:1 instruction tonon-verbal, non-ambulatory students in grades 6-12 aligned with Common Core Curriculum
- Be familiar with and incorporate various AAC devices and programs (i.e. Tobii Dynavox, PECS, Boardmaker Online)
- Be familiar with various educational classifications, the IEP process, IEP goal writing with Short Term Objectives
- Design and implement data collection to track IEP goal progress
- Participate in impartial hearing and/or settlement process from beginning to end (i.e. providing lawyers with documentation, testifying at impartial hearings, work with board members and lawyers)
- Maintain student progress and files (i.e. data collection, progress reports, session notes)
- Participate in after school events ( (i.e. Back to School Night, Parent Teacher Conferences, parent workshops/seminars)
- Participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences
- Plan and lead school-wide field trips
- Attend monthly meetings with teachers and therapists, coordinate and implement a highly individualized schedule tailored to students needs (includes coverage schedules)
- Develop and collect data for the academic curriculum for students with disabilities aged 5 21.
- Collaborate with the Related Services Staff to implement a transdisciplinary program and implement individualized student schedules
- Collaborate with Related Services to promote new community partnerships
- Attend events during and after school hours to promote the school
- Engage in professional development activities 2 hours a month
- New York State Special Education Certification (Required)
Requirements include:
- 3-5+ years of experience
- Experience teaching non-verbal, non-ambulatory children
- Team player
- Inherent belief that children with severe medical, physical and cognitive complexities can learn
- Self-starter who excels at follow-through
- Detail oriented
- Outside of the box thinker
- Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn low- and high-tech AAC
