Job Description:

The employee must understand and support the school mission.SummaryIn close collaboration with the school social worker, and under additional supervision of an accredited social worker arranged by the university, the School Social Work Intern (SSWI) delivers comprehensive social work services to students, parents and the school. The SSWI works with the school social worker to identify and assist students in overcoming barriers that interfere with learning through the use of assessment, counseling, consultation, coordination of school and community resources, and program development. The SSWI is given the opportunity to take the theory and knowledge learned in the Masters in Social Work program, and put it into practice. The SSWI is expected to work closely with the school social worker, actively asking questions, discussing topics in social work, and taking full advantage of the mentor-mentee relationship. The position is 15-20 hours a week.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate supportive groups for identified students.
  • Assist in truancy prevention/intervention by promoting regular school attendance of students through on-going attendance monitoring at school, counseling students and their parents, and consulting with school personnel regarding the effectiveness of the school's attendance incentive plan.
  • Work one on one with a small caseload of students referred to social work services.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation of services provided.
  • Research and share appropriate resources with families seeking additional services.
  • Collect and record information to share with appropriate personnel as a component of case study.
  • Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all school policies and procedures.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as required.
The SSWI may also participate in other school social worker duties (crisis intervention, conflict-resolution, teaching tier one social-emotional learning curriculum) depending on individual interests and skills.Qualifications, Education and Work Experience:
  • Currently enrolled in or graduated from a Masters level Social Work program
  • Passionate about supporting children's development
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong desire to learn from diverse communities
  • Experience with elementary education a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Computer proficiency Excel, Word, Google Suite: Documents, Slides, Sheets and Google Meets
