Washington Academy Elementary SchoolJob Title: School Social Worker - Elementary School Department: Student Support Services Reports to: School Leader (Principal) Position Type: School Year Exempt - 10 months Job Summary: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated School Social Worker to join our team. The School Social Worker will provide vital support to students, families, and school staff, addressing social, emotional, and behavioral issues that impact students' learning and overall well-being. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, empathy, and a strong understanding of social work principles in an educational setting. Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Team-oriented, coordinate with principal and teachers
- Communicate with staff, parents, and students through classroom visits, group discussion, etc.
- Conduct assessment and intervention with affected students
- Help all students when they have social emotional issue
- Assist in planning for student academic success
- Participate in community service projects and field trips
- Help create positive school culture
- Build positive relationships with parents and community
- Provide individual and group counseling, including crisis intervention
- Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:
- Master's Degree in Social Work or related field
- Connecticut School Social Work Certification required (071)
- Experience with the Elementary population preferred
Work Setting and Physical Requirements:
- Work hours typically follow the school calendar, with occasional evening or weekend commitments for meetings or events.
- Work primarily takes place in school buildings, including offices, classrooms, and meeting rooms.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times. Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
