Position Type: Student Services/Social WorkerDate Posted: 2/21/2024Location: Elementary SchoolDate Available: 08/05/2024District: Lyons Elementary District 103JOB TITLE: School Social Worker REPORTS TO: School Principal SUPERVISES: Students DEPARTMENT: Student Services JOB TYPE: Full-Time (35 hours/week) FLSA STATUS: Exempt SALARY/BENEFITS: Refer to Teacher Collective Bargaining Agreement JOB FUNCTION Coordinates and provides social services for students of all ages or grades assigned; provides services in accordance with the philosophy, mission, standards, policies, and procedures of the district and as ordered by the Illinois Association of School Social Workers (IASSW). This position directly reports to the school principal and functionally reports to the other school administrators and district directors. This position coordinates with the other teachers, instructional coaches, and school psychologists along with other support staff, students, guardians, and the community. TERM Shall work the 12 workweeks as defined by the leave of absence, commencing on 10/1/1023. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This list is not all inclusive and is only intended to illustrate the various responsibilities and duties performed.
  • Develops and maintains the social service program, drafting supporting procedures and guidelines for the program in accordance with district and IASSW standards.
  • Develops and maintains a thorough knowledge of referral resources throughout the service area.
  • Schedules visits to assess students' psychosocial status; cmmunicates with school psychologists to report student progress, needs, concerns, and potential and actual problems; maintains accurate and timely records including clinical and progress notes according to department policy.
  • Works closely with members of the student's educational team in the development of the plan of treatment, including IEP plans, based on the psychosocial assessment and accepted social work interventions.
  • Develops working relationships with leaders in community resource groups, representing the district at meetings and on various committees that address the social needs of students.
  • Acts as a resource for other members of the educational team, providing in-service education and consultation in understanding the social and emotional factors related to academic problems.
  • Participates in planning and implementing quality improvement activities.
  • Provides positive student relations in dealing with students, families, teachers, fellow department employees, referral resources, service agencies, and others.
  • Attends chair meetings as needed for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring that outcomes achieve school, district, and/or state objectives.
  • Establishes and implements small group management structure and rules that ensure the physical and mental safety of all students; ensures safety and security standards for children, staff, and visitors of the school; supervises all students throughout school grounds and on educational trips as necessary.
  • Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
  • Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in school social work, including but not limited to Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party reimbursement sources.
  • Recognizes and supports diversity and equity in support of school and district initiatives.
  • Maintains an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and participant attitude on the part of all staff and students; celebrates the achievements and successes of students.
  • Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars as required.
  • Attends work as scheduled and arrives in a timely manner unless a qualified absence has been approved as described in the collective bargaining agreement.

  • Physical, sensory, and cognitive abilities sufficient to perform essential functions.
  • Good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in clinical interviewing.
  • Demonstrated ability in group therapy, group management, individual therapy, and family counseling.
  • Excellent leadership skills to oversee and support the work of interns and staff.
  • Demonstrated skills in consultation and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Masters degree in related subject area; appropriate state license or certification; School Social Social Worker Endorsement are required. At least two years of social work experience in a school setting is preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and standing, bending, and moving. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
