School Social Worker Job DescriptionPosition SummaryThe School Social Worker at lan Academy Charter School plays a critical role in ensuring the social, emotional, and academic well-being of all students. This position involves providing direct support to students, families, and staff while fostering a positive school culture. The School Social Worker is a bridge between school, home, and the community, working to remove barriers to student success and promote equity, inclusion, and resilience.Responsibilities1. Direct Student Support
- Provide individual and group counseling to address emotional, behavioral, and social challenges.
- Develop intervention plans tailored to the unique needs of students.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to create strategies that support students' social-emotional growth and academic success.
2. Family Engagement and Advocacy
- Build strong relationships with families to promote collaboration and trust.
- Connect families with community resources, including mental health services, financial assistance, and other supports.
- Serve as a family advocate, ensuring parents are informed and engaged in their child's education and well-being.
3. Crisis Intervention
- Respond to urgent situations involving students, such as trauma, grief, or conflict.
- Implement crisis management strategies and provide emotional support to students and staff during challenging times.
- Coordinate with external agencies to provide additional resources when needed.
4. Schoolwide Support and Collaboration
- Develop and deliver professional development for staff on topics such as trauma-informed practices, restorative justice, and mental health awareness.
- Assist in designing and implementing schoolwide programs to improve social-emotional learning, attendance, and school culture.
- Collaborate with leadership to identify and address systemic barriers to student success.
5. Compliance and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of services provided.
- Prepare reports and documentation required for compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of interventions to leadership and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) required; licensure as an LMSW or LCSW preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families in a school or related setting.
- Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practices, SEL frameworks, and restorative approaches.
- Ability to navigate and connect families to local community resources.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Cultural competence and a deep commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Flexibility and resilience in responding to a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Compensation & BenefitsSalaries for this role range from $50,000 to $70,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
