The School Social Worker is a key member of the Student and Family Affairs team who actively coaches students and staff members and supports families on how to build and maintain a positive school culture in support of rigorous academic and artistic inquiry. The School Social Worker reports to the Director of Student and Family Affairs and is an integral member of the Student and Family Affairs team. The School Social Worker supports the development of students by providing psychotherapy, counseling, and support for families and instructional staff.Duties & ResponsibilitiesQualificationsA Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or universityA Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited college or universityLicensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Masters in Social Work (LMSW), or with accompanying NYS certification in School Counseling and licensing for the practice of independent psychotherapyAt least 3-5 years of demonstrated success working with children and familiesSchool-based counseling experience in a high-performing, urban school settingExceptional organization and planning skillsSuperior communication skillsAn ability to work collaborativelyA commitment to single-sex educationProficiency in general computer skills (experience with student information systems; PowerSchool or Kickboard)Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Fluency in Spanish is a plusSchool CultureModel the core values of Public Preparatory Network at all times; be a visible and highly engaged leader in the school community. Support a school-wide behavior management system that is supported by incentives, logical consequences, reflection and character development.Support a school culture of high behavioral expectations that enables a consistent focus on academic results.Participate in regularly scheduled Supportive Tiers for All Increases Results (STAIR) Team meetings as needed. Support all staff around behavior management, classroom culture, and school wide systems. Liaison with teaching and administrative staff to support students' goals.Provide recess and lunch duty supervision.Support the school as directed by the Principal/Director of Student and Family Affairs.Duties and Responsibilities ManagementManage the implementation of social emotional curriculum.Manage ACS and other support agencies to support students receiving services. Provide psychotherapy to Girls Prep/Boys Prep students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and to other students identified by Girls Prep/Boys Prep staffParticipate in regularly scheduled position meetings and check in meetings with the Director of Student and Family affairs to ensure the school's successful implementation of best practices, and shared, mission-aligned professional development. Ensure smooth operation of the schoolwide systems and routines that support students, teachers and families. School CultureModel the core values of Public Preparatory Network at all times; be a visible and highly engaged leader in the school community. Support and collaborate with structures that establish families as partners including the Community Council, Family Conferences, classroom and school-wide and network wide family events during and after school as needed. Support the workshops and seminars for families as needed. Collaborate with Student and Family Affairs team to provide resources about educational and recreational opportunities. Be well versed in community resources that support physical and mental health. Connect families to social services and community resources.Seek out professional resources and attend professional development to meet the needs of Girls Prep/Boys Prep students to continuously improve practice.Adult Learning and CoachingAttend regularly scheduled check in meetings with teachers to provide tier 1 social/emotional support for their classroom culture and provide feedback pertaining to students social and emotional wellbeing.Educate staff in areas where emotional issues affect educational progress.Student SupportProvide at risk services for students individually and in small groups around individualized behavior goals to manage crisis intervention. Communicate and reinforce explicit and high behavioral expectations based on our Core Values. Work closely and effectively with students who have behavior challenges; partner with Student and Family Affairs Team, teachers and families to execute individualized behavior interventions when needed. Member of the Building Crisis Response Team.Community EngagementProvide regularly scheduled office hours to provide accessibility to supports for families.
