WEST PERRY SCHOOL DISTRICT(Anticipated: Third Grade Teacher) ( Position: Elementary Teacher Building: DistrictReports to: Principal - Assistant Principal Assignment: 189 days 7.5 hours/dayJob Summary: The Elementary School Teacher plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students in kindergarten through grade five. The Elementary School Teacher manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, modifies instructional activities as required. The Elementary School Teacher guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field. Certified in Elementary Education. Valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate. Demonstrate competency in the subject area(s) assigned. General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.POSITION FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESInstructional Process
  • Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to the District philosophy, goals and objectives.
  • Makes purposeful and appropriate less plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task.
  • Plans and implements a program of study designed to meet individual needs of students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
  • Encourages student enthusiasm for the learning process and the development of good study habits.
  • Provides progress and interim reports as required.
  • Demonstrates a strong grasp of subject matter.
  • Uses effective oral and written communication.
Curriculum Development
  • Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and is willing to share this knowledge for continual improvement of the school's curriculum.
  • Assists on the ongoing curriculum revision process, including the revision of written courses of study.
  • Becomes acquainted with supplemental services beneficial to students as an extension of regular classroom activities.
Classroom Management
  • Develops, in accordance with district school guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques that are consistently applied.
  • Organizes classroom procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged and learning.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Shares responsibility during the school day for supervision of students in all areas of the school.
Staff Relationships
  • Upholds and enforces board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations, and is supportive of them to the public.
  • Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time.
  • Works cooperatively with parents to strengthen the educational program for their children.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with other staff members.
Student Evaluation
  • Evaluates progress of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods and progress monitoring instruments such as teacher made tests, samples of students' work, mastery skills check lists, etc.
  • Makes appropriate adjustments in the instructional program and as required by the principal and student needs.
  • Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
Other
  • Pursues professional growth through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Cooperates with the administration in planning appropriate in-service training programs at a school or at the district level.
  • Uses and promotes the use of technology as a learning and teaching tool.
  • Attends staff, department, and committee meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Perform other duties which may be assigned by the Building Principal, Assistant Superintendent and/or Superintendent.GENERAL POSITION REQUIREMENTSPHYSICAL CAPABILITIES: Must be able to stand 1 hour at one time Must be able to sit 4 hours at one time Must be able to walk 1 hour at one time Must be able to bend/stop, squat, and reach above shoulder Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. frequently Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally Must be able to do repetitive actions including grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manipulation, twisting/turning, writing, or printing Must be able to adhere to daily time schedule Must be able to hear (40 decibel loss maximum) Must be able to verbally communicate Must have vision requirements or near acuity of 20 inches or less and far acuity of 20 feet or more with depth perception, accommodation, and field of vision.PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: Position encompasses entire building and grounds. Center of operation is the classroom which is ventilated and well lighted. SPECIFIC SKILLS: Must possess computer/software skills Must possess excellent math skills Must possess general office skills Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills Must have ability to operate various office equipment
