Science Lab Facilitator:
Assists the science department with the safe and efficient operation of Grayson College's science laboratories and classes and instructs a minimum of eight (8) semester credit hours of science courses and/or labs over the course of an academic year (this is a 12 Month position). Position may be required to work a non-traditional instructional schedule and perform in a variety of settings and formats, to include weekends, outdoor facilities, and evenings as needed.
The salary for this position is based on the Grayson College 2024-2025 Faculty Salary Scale,

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
* 50% Assists with aspects of the operation and/or instruction of science laboratories, including setup of laboratories for each week's activities. Cleans and organizes the laboratories, stockrooms and prep rooms. Operates and cares for lab equipment and instruments associated with all science course/programs. Also, assists in care of animals and equipment associated with deparment Agricultural Science program / farm. Ensures proper disposal of bio-hazardous and chemical waste. Serves as the science laboratory safety officer, coordinates HAZMAT disposal for the science labs, and assists with EPA for Biology/Physical Science.
* 15% Coordinates the location, setup and take down of lab practicals.
* 15% Maintains departmental inventories and assists with preparation of departmental budgets. Coordinates with Program Assistant to order supplies.
* 10% Instructs minimum of eight credit hours of science courses and/or labs per academic year.
* 5% Oversees the department's work study students and/or Science Hub Staff.
* 5% Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:
* Experience: Six months to two years of experience in a laboratory setting. Previous successful experience teaching in a high school, university and/or community college.
* Education: Master's degree or higher in biology or a master's degree and a minimum of 18 hours of graduate work in biology from an accredited college or university.
* Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
* Other Skills: Good mathmatical, written and oral skills. Knowledge of basic laboratory principles and practices. Willingness to stay current in science safety rules and regulations as well as teaching methodologies and introduce pedagogical innovations as needed for effective instruction.
* Physical Requirements: The work requires moderate physical exertion such as short periods of standing, walking over rough uneven surfaces, some recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Job may require recurring lifting of lightweight objects with infrequent bending or stooping alternating with the lighter activities. Job requires minimal agility and
dexterity.
* Work Environment: Regular exposure to unfavorable environments such as weather, body fluids, toxic laboratory & industrial chemicals, or confined, dirty and noisy locations. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment such as masks, coats, gowns, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
