Basic Requirements:
Must be a Christian who is a member of a church that acknowledges Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and recognizes solely the Old Testament and the New Testament as sacred Scriptures.
General Objectives:
The Science Safety and Lab Manager is tasked with managing all laboratory operations within the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. This encompasses ensuring laboratories are well-maintained, run efficiently, and adhere to all safety regulations. This pivotal role enhances the educational and research environments for both students and faculty.
Qualifications:
* B.S. in Biology or a related scientific field is required; a Master of Science is preferred.
* Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
* A commitment to maintaining high standards of excellence in laboratory management.
* Previous experience in lab management is desirable but not mandatory.
* Ability to work with faculty in support of their efforts to provide laboratory instruction.
* Capability to teach and supervise lab sessions as necessary, which would require a master's degree and 18 graduate hours in science.
Specific Responsibilities:
* Manage weekly inventory of laboratory chemicals, supplies, and equipment, maintaining detailed logs and conducting annual audits for accuracy and readiness. This also includes the acquisition and maintenance of all safety equipment in the labs.
* Serve as the primary laboratory safety officer, enforcing safety standards, compiling and supervising laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and conducting periodic safety training sessions. This duty also encompasses the creation, maintenance, and updating of written SOPs for each class in the CNSM involving chemicals or hazardous materials.
* Resolve issues related to equipment maintenance, supply replenishment, and order fulfillment.
* Know federal, state, and local rules concerning occupational safety including training, documentation, purchasing, storage, labeling, data of all chemicals and MSDS sheets, proper protocol for storage and removal of chemical/hazardous waste.
* Coordinate and instruct lab student workers on proper laboratory procedures, including the handling, recording, and maintenance of lab supplies.
* Assist faculty in maintaining safety notebooks and ensuring that laboratories are prepared in compliance with current safety procedures and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) requirements.
* Work with the Chemical Hygiene Officer to oversee and enforce laboratory safety and CNSM regulatory compliance, and to assist faculty members in compiling safety information and procedures notebooks for each laboratory experiment.
* In cooperation with discipline directors (Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Health Sciences, Physical Science, etc.) and the dean, alongside our Chemical Hygiene Officer, oversee and control the ordering, maintenance, and compliance of required lab equipment and supplies, including monitoring chemical purchases, managing receipt, labeling, and placement of orders, ensuring proper use and updating inventory documentation, and scheduling related events and equipment inspections in line with the college's Chemical Hygiene Plan.
Additional Responsibilities:
* Maintain a calendar of events regarding safety training, documentation, equipment inspections, and inventory audits to ensure lab readiness and compliance with the CNSM Chemical Hygiene Plan and relevant laws.
* Report directly to the dean and collaborate closely with faculty and lab student workers, serving as the central point of contact for all lab-related activities to enhance communication and decision-making.
* Assist and work with the dean in maintaining the Emergency Response Notebook of the CNSM.
* Ability to work with faculty and students to support on-campus research efforts.
* Report to the dean for any other assignments.
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position with regular office hours between 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday
