A law firm is seeking a highly skilled Scientific Advisor with a strong technical background in electrical engineering, computer science, software, or physics to join the Electrical and Computer Technologies group in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will leverage their technical expertise to support the firm's complex Intellectual Property (IP) needs, working collaboratively with attorneys and other team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply technical expertise to support the firm and its clients' complex IP needs.
- Review technical disclosures to determine whether the client should or can obtain a patent.
- Participate in client and inventor interviews to gain a clear understanding of the complexities surrounding new inventions.
- Conduct research in patent databases and non-patent literature to gather necessary information for legal assessment.
- Utilize obtained details and technical expertise to draft patent applications that describe new inventions.
- Provide support during the application process with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Assist firm practitioners in developing and drafting arguments in response to communications from the USPTO to secure patents.
- Collaborate with attorneys and other team members to provide high-quality legal services.
- Maintain regular communication with clients and inventors to keep them informed about the status of their patent applications.
- Ensure compliance with all firm policies and practices.
- Perform other duties, tasks, or projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field of study.
- 2+ years of applicable industry experience in an engineering or related capacity.
- Strong technical background in electrical engineering, computer science, software, or physics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to present findings in a professional and organized manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively prioritize tasks.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work requests.
