Overall Position Summary and Objectives:
- Seeking highly motivated and collaborative Scientific Manager to support overall objectives of Genomics Research Branch.
- GRB supports research in psychiatric genetics, aiming to understand genetic basis of mental illness.
- Examples include genome-wide association studies (for rare and/or common variation), whole exome whole genome sequencing, fine-mapping to identify causal variants, admixture mapping to explore population-specific risk factors, copy number variation, functional genomics studies (such as transcriptomics) related to the consequence of genetic variation, epigenetic studies to understand how environmental exposures interact with genes. Candidate will manage scientific and programmatic activities of assigned GRB portfolio.
Min Education:
Certifications & Licenses:
- PhD in Life Sciences with a minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral experience in biotechnology, industry, and/or academic with hands-on lab experience
Skills:
- Strong operational and organizational skills, with experience in managing projects and/or reports in a core lab or team setting and working with contract research organizations.
- Detail oriented, ability to multitask and effectively manage work processes in a team-based environment.
- Proactive problem solver and self-motivated to drive timelines and deliverables.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and foster collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

- Work products and documents related to management of assigned program portfolio within the Genomics Research Branch, coordination with the Branch Chief and Program Officers.
- Work products and documents related to new genomic project study registration, including regularly updated information regarding status of study registration.
- Work products and documents related to monitoring of grantee compliance with registered genomics data sharing plans.
- Work products and documents related to preparation for each Council Round (listening to and taking notes for review of applications assigned to the GR Branch, assisting in providing feedback to applicants, preparation of program notes for applications for pre-council meetings, providing feedback on genomics data sharing plans).
- Work products and documents related to monitoring of grantee compliance with registered project sharing plans.
Statement of Work Details:
- Develops and assists staff implement policies and procedures related to the organization's scientific programs. Initiate and maintain communications with grantees and applicants
- Track and monitor timelines, milestones, requirements, and deliverables for grant awards to ensure that objectives are met.
- Develop agendas, coordinate meeting preparation, and capture decisions and action items for internal government meetings and network meetings with investigators.
- Each Council Round, prepare programmatic notes and record relevant genomic data sharing information for Genomics Branch grant applications
- Work with the assigned program officers to evaluate whether the submitted genomics data sharing plan is appropriate.
- Work with Genomics Research Branch staff on Data Sharing and Management Plans for new applications
- Contribute to the reviews and pre-council presentation preparations for Genomics Research Branch applications.
- Participate in and coordinate with the NINH-wide Genomics Team's programmatic activities relates to genomics grant applications
- Contribute to the writing and editing of NOFOs
Collects, analyzes and creates scientific program information.
- Coordinates workshops and reports their outcomes.
- Attend review, scientific, in-house and various other meetings; provide minutes/reports and self-directed analysis when requested.
- Evaluates current scientific programs and determines if changes need to be made.
- Assists with analyzing current scientific programs and developing and proposing new initiatives.
- Collaborates with management and prepares reports to keep them updated on new and ongoing programs and activities.
- Prepare the Institute's annual report on program activities; use scientific expertise in health research to identify common themes and cross-cutting science areas.
- Provide advice and consultation to the staff about policy, programs, communications and strategic alliance issues.
- Meet with upper level management on a regular basis to provide oral reports on the status of on-going projects and to receive new assignments.
- Coordinates staff responsible for developing, installing and maintaining scientific programs.
- Analyzes current policies and procedures and suggests and develops improvements.
- Assists in preparing and developing future strategic plans.
- Prepares and provides educational materials to staff.
- Works closely with management to develop new initiatives that further scientific research.
- Uses scientific expertise to review grant proposals and Interacts with potential grantees to obtain additional information.
- Perform scientific and administrative reviews and analyses of applications/proposals from a programmatic viewpoint.
