DescriptionScientist II Performs customary scientific/lab duties without supervision. Designs and executes non-routine experiments on a basis of literature analyses with minimal supervision. Assists in supervising/training technicians and junior scientist. Performs all work in conformance with applicable regulations. Performs all work in a safe manner. The primary scope of responsibility is within the immediate discipline and secondarily within a multi-disciplinary environment. Provides rodent model group with laboratory support for internal in vivo rodent model activities, assessing in vivo assay performance and capabilities (variability, throughput, etc.), to identify and implement new model technologies or approaches based on the needs of the program. Contributes to portfolio of early-stage future innovation projects (such as novel target identification and validation) in coordination with internal and external partners.Scientist III Performs customary scientific/lab duties without supervision within Rodent Model team for parasitological in vivo model work in Parasitology Discovery. Designs and executes non-routine experiments on a basis of literature analyses with minimal supervision, insuring the progression of innovative pharmaceutical research projects that can be developed to meet Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health's business needs, leveraging Market Requirements.   • Completes the in vivo rodent parasite model SOPs to minimize cycle time and maximize physiological relevance.
  • Maintain an efficient record of current assay capabilities, including variability, throughput etc.
  • Applies basic scientific principles to execute and improve workflows for in vivo hit assessment.
  • Works closely with the Parasitology Research team to contribute to a thorough biological validation package to support Hit- to-Lead chemistry plan
  • Support and promote a culture of scientific inquiry and discovery, contributing to a learning culture that delivers scientific excellence
  • Support the execution of scientific excellence to global research project activities within the rodent model team.
  • Activities have to be compliant with legislative expectations of regulatory agencies as well as internal standards of Good Scientific Practice
  • Collaborate with rodent team to propose solutions for rodent model expertise or approaches to improve models and with this hit-to-lead cascade
  • Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations governing the Animal Health Industry.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance as well as technology trends.
Scientist III
  • Contribute to designing & implementing the in vivo rodent parasite model SOPs to minimize cycle time and maximize physiological relevance.
  • Contribute to create, and maintain an efficient record of current assay capabilities, including variability, throughput etc.
  • Contribute to recommendations for assay use as potential competitive advantage or commodity, contribute to assay implementation in-house.
  • Contribute to build rodent model team over time and train additional team members. Support and promote a culture of scientific inquiry and discovery, contributing to a learning culture that delivers scientific excellence.
  • Contribute to Developing guidelines for validation, interpretation and prioritization of new active molecules based on whole organism screening results
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key experts internally (AH and HP) and externally to facilitate a collaborative environment for identification, evaluation and progression of strategic opportunities.
  • Ensure IP development and long-term value of BI assets.
  • Leverage strong interpersonal skills to interact closely with the team Head and whole Parasitology Discovery Team and other internal and/or external technical functions and resources to contribute delivering a thorough biological validation package to support Lead confirmation and med.-chem. optimization chemistry plan.
RequirementsScientist II
  • B.S. from an accredited institution in molecular parasitology, animal or biological sciences with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience; OR M.S. from an accredited institution in molecular parasitology, microbiology, animal or biological sciences.
  • Working expertise on rodent model in vivo methodologies, preferably in parasitology
  • Track record of exact reliable working attitude and meticulous laboratory work execution
  • Developed communication, interpersonal and intercultural skills allowing effective interaction within the team
  • Fluency in English is mandatory
Scientist III
  • B.S./M.S. from an accredited institution in parasitology, Animal Sciences or biological sciences with at least five (5) years of relevant experience in parasite rodent models and other in vivo or in vitro screening in an Animal Health company; Or
  • Ph.D. from an accredited institution in parasitology with thorough knowledge of parasites of Pets and Ruminants with at least three (3) years of relevant experience in rodent model organization and parasite models in particular and other in vivo species in an Animal Health company.
  • Thorough knowledge of parasites of Pets and Ruminants.
  • Good knowledge of the veterinary pre-clinical parasitology research field.
  • Excellent expertise on most major veterinary ectoparasites and endoparasites and in vivo model methodology.
  • Solid working knowledge of pharmaceutical discovery and research.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Work independently in a team and in a self-directed manner in close alignment with AD Rodent model Parasitology.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and intercultural skills allowing effective interaction across other groups in BIAH R&D and academic collaborators.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory and ability to communicate in another language such as French or German is beneficial but not mandatory.
