Key Responsibilities:
Assess and formulate isotopically labeled large molecules (peptides/proteins), develop and optimize targeted MS assays, streamline data analysis, and assess stability and manufacturability.
Designs and performs laboratory experiments independently.
Serves as Technical Leader on R&D projects of increasing complexity and number.
Assist with manufacturing and analytical validation efforts and risk mitigation plans.
Majority of this role involves execution and communication of technical lab work.
Contributes well-considered ideas for new products and improvements to procedures.
Independently writes technical methods for the production, testing, and use of new products.
Maintains in-depth knowledge of relevant fields and techniques.
Position Summary:
This Scientist III will play a critical role in the development of new reagents and targeted assays for large molecules using liquid chromatography (LC) and mass spectrometry (MS). This role requires strong technical skills in chromatography and mass spectrometry analysis for quantification including targeted proteomics methods. This scientist will work in a highly collaborative environment integrating reagents, instruments, and software to develop robust quantitative assays. The individual will work closely with the Mass Spectrometry Reagents R&D groups in the Life Sciences Research (LSR) and cross-division departments.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
• Ph.D. degree or MS degree and 4+ years of experience in analytical or life science (analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or related discipline) or equivalent.
• Excellent knowledge and practical experience with liquid chromatography and targeted quantitation of peptides/proteins with targeted proteomics methods (PRM, SRM).
• Expertise in MS sample preparation techniques and LC/MS-based method development and data processing.
• Excellent technical/scientific/business knowledge of biological mass spectrometry applications and MS reagent market space.
• Ability to work independently to initiate, take ownership of, and lead research into innovative MS-based workflows and assays.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication as well as presentation skills with experience working in a matrix organization and with external customers.
• Previous industrial product development experience is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with GMP requirements and regulations is highly desirable.
• Experience in product development and/or project management is highly desirable.
• Experience in troubleshooting issues related to LC and MS instrumentations.
• Experience with MS data analysis using Skyline, Chromeleon or Proteome Discoverer software.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
