Department: COM | Biochemistry - Dixon Lab Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: An Assistant Staff Scientist position is available in the in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology ( at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) to provide comprehensive wet-lab, dry-lab, protocol support, and other general support for the laboratory of Dr. Dan Dixon. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (or related field). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent writing skills Ability to present data to groups of researchers in lectures and lab meetings Ability to work independently Analyze data and discuss results with other lab personnel and the PI Maintain and use literature data bases S kills to learn new knowledge Ability to develop new techniques. Preferred Qualifications: Five (5) years relevant experience with wet-lab, dry-lab, protocol support, and other general lab support as outlined above under key responsibilities Additional Information: Responsibilities: Wet-Lab Responsibilities Conducting Experiments: Execute experiments in molecular biology and biochemistry, ensuring precision and adherence to established protocols. Animal and Human Subject Studies: Manage and perform studies involving vertebrate animals and human subjects, complying with ethical guidelines and safety standards. Dry-Lab Responsibilities Data Analysis: Analyze experimental data and produce figures to help interpret results and support research findings. Data Management: Maintain organized and secure databases for efficient data retrieval and reporting. Bioinformatics: Use basic bioinformatics tools to process and analyze biological data. Protocol Support Protocol Development: Write and update protocols for vertebrate animal studies, human subject studies, and other lab-specific compliance protocols to facilitate research activities. General Support Meeting Organization: Coordinate and organize meetings, ensuring effective communication and scheduling. Grant and Manuscript Writing: Assist in the preparation and submission of grant proposals and manuscripts, contributing to the laboratory's funding and publication goals. Mentoring: Provide mentoring support for staff and trainees, fostering a collaborative and educational environment for learning and development.
