Scientist - Mass Spectrometry

The Scientist will be responsible for designing, executing, and overseeing mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics scientific research projects for investigators. This individual will perform advanced applied mass spectrometry methodologies and techniques to explore and expand knowledge to address important biological questions. The Scientist will lead experiments, contribute to biological sample preparation for mass spectrometry analysis, analyze data, and interpret results, while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to achieve research goals.

Key Responsibilities

* Design, plan, and execute experiments, applying advanced scientific principles and methodologies within the applied mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics.

* Analyze and may interpret experimental data using statistical tools and software, drawing meaningful conclusions and identifying trends.

* May prepare research findings for publication in scientific journals, present at conferences, and communicate discoveries to peers and stakeholders.

* Lead research initiatives, setting objectives, timelines, and strategies to achieve project goals.

* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing guidance and mentorship to junior researchers, fostering a collaborative research environment.

* Operate timsTOF Flex, timsTOF Ultra 2, Thermo Orbitraps, and Triple Quadrupole mass spectrometers, along with the associated liquid chromatography and software systems for investigator projects.

* Communicate results to investigators in a timely manner.

* Develop new tandem mass spectrometry methods as required for projects.

* Communicate with JAX scientists in one-on-one meetings and emails. Participate in educational seminars as well as customer's lab meetings when required.

* Maintenance of mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography systems.

* Support other JAX Protein Sciences projects with cross training and translational skillsets.

* Keeps abreast of new developments in the field and ensures the training of staff scientists in state-of-the-art skills.

* On-site laboratory position with little to no remote work.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Proven track record of conducting high-quality scientific research related to proteomics and metabolomics, evidenced by publications in reputable journals and successful project leadership.

* Proficiency in specific methodologies, tools, and instrumentation pertinent to the research area.

* Strong leadership, project management, and mentorship abilities to guide and inspire a team of researchers.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting findings, collaborating with peers, and writing grant proposals.

* May have the ability to innovate, propose novel approaches, and solve complex scientific problems.

* Flexibility to adapt to changing research needs and technologies.

* Strong networking skills to establish collaborations and partnerships within the scientific community.

* Ability to develop long-term research strategies aligned with organizational goals.

* Ph.D. Degree in mass spectrometry, biochemistry, biology or related field with 2 additional years of experience in advanced aspects of systems level analysis of protein data.

* Experience in applying mass spectrometry and other related technologies to furthering biological discovery.

* Demonstrated ability to trouble-shoot technical issues with complex instrumentation and systems.

* Demonstrated ability to manage and analyze large, complex biological data sets.

* On-site laboratory position with little to no remote work

Education: Master's required/ Doctorate preferred

Experience: 4 years required/ 6 years preferred

Salary: 90,384.00-131,056.50 per year, depending upon experience.
