Job DescriptionSummary: The role of the inspector is to observe and monitor the delivery of material to verify conformance to quality and quantity specifications. The inspector is responsible for receiving, inspecting, and grading inbound and outbound loads of scrap metal.
- Inspect shipments of scrap metal received via truck or rail car, to ensure material meets specifications and is free from hazards in accordance with scrap acceptance policy.
- Correctly identify and record inspection data such as weight, grade, content, and quantity of scrap metal through documentation, pictures, and reports.
- Assist and direct suppliers with inbound scrap deliveries and unloading at the correct commodity pile and/or processing area.
- Direct the unloading of vehicles delivering scrap to ensure safe and orderly traffic flow within the facility.
- Complete inbound inspection grader reports for every load that enters the yard.
- Notify operations supervisors of problems and assist in recommending remedial procedures to correct violations or issues encountered during inspection.
- Collaborate with marketing department concerning quality and consistency of customer deliveries.
- Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed or assigned.
- Perform general housekeeping duties in yard as needed.
- Strictly adhere to all BlueScope Recycling Health, Safety, and Environmental rules and standards
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
- Successful completion of grader training
- 1+ years of scrap industry experience
- Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to appropriately work with and otherwise interact with other company associates, customers, vendors, and the public.
- Problem solving skills
- Reading and writing skills
- Basic math skills
- High School Diploma
- Willing to work overtime and weekends when necessary
