Salary: $18.00 HourlyLocation : Stuart, FL 34994Job Type: Seasonal - FRS EligibleJob Number: 02006Department: Parks & RecreationDivision: Martin County Aquatic ComplexOpening Date: 11/19/2024SUMMARY Schedule, train and supervise Water Park staff and lifeguards for the efficient, effective and safe operation of a waterpark while providing quality customer service to customers. Position requires availability on weekends during the Spring and daily during the summer. In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Note: The listed duties are illustrative only and are not intended to describe each and every function, which may be performed in the job class. Plan and conduct periodic inspections and observe deficiencies in operation, maintenance, safety practices, conditions; ability to issue verbal or written reports and recommendations to correct deficiencies as necessary. Review and inspect the lifesaving equipment and supply requirements, approve purchase requisitions to replenish supplies and equipment, coordinate the collection of revenues, assist in budget preparation, and coordinate records and reports relating to all aquatic activities at assigned facility or facilities. Supervise and conduct water safety and lifeguard certification training programs for aquatics personnel in water rescue and accident prevention techniques, water safety procedures, first aid, and CPR; supervise and conduct practice drills simulating emergency situations; acquire and maintain the required certification. Plan, direct, and implement broad and varied aquatics programs of recreational activities, services, and special events; meet with committees, organized groups, individuals, or other interested parties to provide information, evaluate program needs, revise or formulate programs, and further public relations for the county. Accurately and courteously explain and interpret public safety rules and regulations, fees and charges, and aquatics operational procedures and programs to park patrons; firmly and tactfully enforce or refer enforcement to proper authorities. Coordinate the performing of water management tests to ensure water quality; make adjustments to the quantity and type of chemicals to ensure and maintain total water quality and chemical balance. Performs work related to this job description as required. Knowledge of teaching approved water rescue methods and specific first aid techniques. Knowledge of operational, safety and maintenance requirements for aquatic facilities and amenities. Knowledge of water safety practices and procedures. Knowledge of basic laws, rules and regulations relating to the use of aquatic facilities and amenities. Knowledge of principles and practices of a supervisor and organizational behavior. Skilled in teaching swim instruction, pool lifesaving, first aid and developing aquatic programs. Ability to implement rules and regulations relating to pool and aquatic facility; and to exercise tact, firmness and good judgment in enforcing such rules and regulations. Ability to prevent dangerous situations from arising, to recognize emergencies and to take effective action. Ability to prepare and maintain written and oral reports. Ability to perform work that is physically demanding and/or arduous and maintain high levels of physical fitness and agility, and competency. Ability to supervise the work of subordinate personnel engaged in aquatics programming; safety procedures, and maintenance services by training, scheduling and evaluating work activities at the assigned facility or facilities. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEMust possess a High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma and three (3) years' experience in lifeguarding, swim instruction, aquatic programming, aquatic facility maintenance and concessions, with one (1) year experience working in a supervisory capacity.Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida Driver's LicenseMust possess a certifications in Lifeguarding, First-Aid, CPR (Adult, child and infant), AED and Oxygen Administration.Must acquire and maintain Certified Pool Operator or equivalent certification.Must acquire and maintain, Lifeguard Instructor (American Red Cross or Jeff Ellis and Associates), and Water Safety Instructor (WSI).
