Seasonal Highway Maintenance Worker (Snowbird) Hours: 7:00am - 3:30pm Sign on bonus: $1,000 $500 after 30 days of employment $500 at the end of employment on March 31, 2025 Benefits: NONE General Description McHenry County Division of Transportation is seeking temporary road maintenance workers to work from mid-November until March 31, 2025. These positions perform a variety of maintenance and traffic tasks related to the preservation and upkeep of County highways, bridges, drainage structures, other highway features and DOT facilities. These positions perform semi-skilled work in operating tools and highway maintenance equipment. Also perform essential snow and ice control operations with two schedule options to choose from. Options/Schedule: Option 1: Seasonal winter positions will work Monday through Friday from 7:00 am until 3:30 pm. This will also include after-hours overtime during snow and ice events which may include weekends and holidays. Option 2: On-call commitment for any and all snow events. Must have a flexible schedule and must be available to work at all hours for snow callouts. When called in, must report to work within one hour, which may include weekends and holidays. Essential Functions
- Operate snowplow trucks with plows and salt spreaders, tractors, chippers, compressors, jack hammers, generators, etc.
- Wash, grease and assist in maintenance/servicing equipment including minor repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Repair, replace and patch asphalt and concrete surfaces and fill in aggregate shoulder ruts.
- Direct and control traffic during road maintenance.
- Remove and dispose of trash, dead animals and other debris found on highways.
- Trim and chip trees and shrubs.
- Work from ladders or scaffolding
- Perform difficult physical labor and work under extreme weather conditions.
- All duties are performed in accordance with the County safety code and established safe work practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Other Requirements:
- Completion of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent
- Candidates must possess a CDL Class A or B license with no restrictions, an N(Tanker) endorsement is preferred.
- Requires a satisfactory driving record
