Join our team to create a fun, secure environment for swimmers of all ages.Our pool is open daily from 6:00 AM to 7:45 PM, offering lap swimming, open swim, and lessons. Lifeguard Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all pool guests.
  • Respond to emergencies with lifesaving measures as needed.
  • Enforce pool rules and address unsafe behaviors promptly.
  • Utilize effective surveillance techniques, including proper scanning and strategies to stay alert and focused.
Minimum Age Requirement: 15 years oldWeekly hours vary by position, and certification classes are provided to help you get started. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Be a proactive (take all steps to prevent accidents) guard rather than reactive. Be assertive, aware, and consistent. Use a progressive approach if guests do not heed the corrections. Make requests and issue orders in a courteous and assertive manner.
  • Be professional and prepared. This includes being dressed in uniform (suit, fanny pack, whistle, and tube.) Utilize sun protection including sunglasses, hats, umbrellas, sunscreen, and sun protection clothing.
  • Be knowledgeable of the pool zones. Use the scanning strategy when responsible for a zone. Adjust if necessary to maintain full visibility. Communicate with fellow lifeguards as needed.
  • Be alert and ready to respond at all times. When in the chair or on deck position yourself attentively and professionally (no slouching, leaning, or crossed legs). This includes refraining from unnecessary talk or distraction while guarding. Scan the pool at all times when on deck including when walking. Use the appropriate rotation technique.
  • Participate in pre-season and regularly scheduled emergency procedure drills, trainings, and maintain physical fitness level to allow for the ability for lifeguarding and be able to successfully complete a save.
  • Facilitate deep water tests as needed.
  • Be on the lookout for hazardous situations and take necessary actions to prevent accidents. Keep all safety equipment in good repair and keep the pool area free of debris.
  • Perform rescues when needed. Assist in completing accident reports for all rescues.
  • Perform first aid care when needed. Assist in completing accident reports when the care level requires.
  • Be responsible for routine maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned, including opening and closing tasks.
  • Act respectfully while on duty and project a positive image of the pool staff and the Park & Recreation Department. Communicate in a positive, respectful, helpful manner to all guests and fellow team members.
  • Provide support as directed during special events.
  • Report for work as scheduled.
Qualifications
  • Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguarding Certification; Other certifications may be accepted upon review
  • American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certification, Current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification (PRO CPR). *Please upload a copy of your Certification with your application*
  • For uncertified individuals: Certification classes are offered, job offer upon successful interview will be dependent upon certification.
  • Minimum Age is 15

  • Availability and ability to work outside normal work hours with minimal notice
  • Ability to work in varied environment conditions. May experience exposure to extended periods of sun, rain, cold temperatures, wind, and water. Must be willing to get wet at any given moment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Stamina to stand for long periods time
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
  • An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, and flexible enough to make accommodations for unforeseen events
  • Have excellent communication skills, decision-making skills, and a confident ability to speak with the public and provide good customer service.
  • Willingness to build effective and supportive working relationships with all staff and pool guests
  • A background is aquatic programs such as swim lessons is encouraged
