IntroductionThis is seasonal manual, semi-skilled services and general maintenance work in a park setting. All work is performed outside. All applicants must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug test in order to be employed. If you would like to be considered, please review the requirements below then complete and submit an employment application AND a supplemental form.Nature Of Work An employee in this class is responsible for performing a variety of manual and semiskilled tasks in construction, maintenance, repair, and/or other related municipal services. Assigned job duties and tasks will be learned through on-the-job training requiring exercise of only limited initiative and independent judgment. Some positions might require employees to work part-time or irregular hours, and/or weekends. Under immediate supervision, employees receive instructions orally with work being reviewed while in progress and upon completion through continuous observation and results obtained. Examples of Duties Performs unskilled manual tasks in construction, maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, grounds and other installations. Responsible for the cleanliness and general upkeep of city park facilities.Performs daily assessment of park properties and maintains a safe environment for all park patrons. Cleans and stocks restroom facilities. Inspects playground areas, levels mulch, and removes any trash and hazards.Plants and waters grass and shrubbery; cleans and washes vehicles; sweeps/blows sidewalks and streets; deposits rubbish in containers; performs custodial tasks such as emptying receptacles and keeping facilities clean. Performs athletic field maintenance and irrigation repairs. Duties may include turf care, lining fields, watering, repairing bases, pitching mounds and batter's boxes. Cleans and prepares equipment for operations. Uses a variety of hand tools including shovels, hoes, axes, pitchforks, rakes, picks, sledge hammers, and wheelbarrows to perform above tasks; uses hand rollers and tamps to compact materials; may operate lawn mower to cut grass; receives on-the-job training in semi-skilled and skilled trades.Performs related work as required.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to: acquire knowledge of basic repair, construction and maintenance procedures; acquire knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions; acquire knowledge of plant care, where required; understand and follow oral instructions; perform tasks requiring physical strength and endurance; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; develop skill in use and care of hand tools and other related equipment; work outside.Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age and currently enrolled in County school system. General maintenance or landscaping experience preferred. orIf not currently enrolled in County school system, a high school diploma or equivalent is required; applicant(s) must be at least 18 years of age, general maintenance or landscaping experience preferred. ExaminationEvaluation of education and experience.
