Job Description:
This seasonal position runs from December to April and offers the opportunity for both evening and overnight shifts seven days a week. Ideal for those looking to earn extra money while making a difference!The Upper Valley Haven provides temporary shelter for those experiencing homelessness, supportive housing, food, and problem solving to those in need. Overview We are seeking Seasonal Shelter Staff for our Lebanon, NH location. Openings available on second (4:00 pm - 12:30 am) and third (12:00 am - 8:30 am) shifts 7 days a week. Ideal candidates will have a passion for helping their fellow community members and a willingness to learn. We invite applicants with lived experience to apply. The Lebanon Seasonal Shelter will have two staff members on each shift. Once trained, Seasonal Shelter Staff can also pick up shifts on a per diem basis at our year-round shelters in White River Junction. Seasonal Shelter Staff assist guests with a variety of needs, facilitate operations, conduct intake paperwork, help serve meals, and ensure the environment is safe, clean, and welcoming. Staff build positive and supportive relationships and are respectful and accepting of people facing challenges in their lives.Reliability and punctuality are vitally important to ensure the smooth operation of the shelter. This is an awake position, both shifts.Compensation & BenefitsThe pay rate for this position is $22.00 per hour plus an additional $1.50 per hour for third shift. This position accrues paid time off based on hours worked. Staff who work through the end of the program in mid-April will receive a retention bonus based on hours worked. RequirementsCritical to the success of this position are:
  • Proven track record of reliability and punctuality
  • Must be able to remain awake for the entire shift
  • Willingness to ask questions, seek support, and learn new things
  • De-escalation skills and an understanding of trauma, substance misuse and mental health concerns
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Ability to focus on the strengths, skills, interests, and needs of others
  • Grounded and calm in stressful situations
  • Must be able to bend, move about, and lift up to 30 pounds
  • This position requires custodial-type tasks, restocking supplies, food service, and occasionally clearing and sanding snow on paths
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to work
