Job Description:
SUMMARY
Working under the general direction of the Construction Supervisor, incumbent performs unskilled labor as required to which employee is assigned, using hand and power tools in handling materials in a variety of Construction and restoration projects. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with City and department policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
* Digs and backfills excavations;
* Breaks pavement using the proper tools, dismantles equipment and structures;
* Assists in repairing roadways, sidewalks, and curbs;
* Performs general maintenance work in and about departmental headquarters;
* Performs restorations of park strip cuts;
* Cleaning, prepping, and painting fire hydrants;
* Performs as a Laborer with construction crews;
* Performs as a helper with Hydrant Techs;
* Performs as a helper with our warehouse staff;
* Pull, drive, park, and back up a trailer hooked to a vehicle;
* Flagging at a construction site;
* Hangs tags on customers residences;
* Other duties as directed.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
* Maintains equipment, tools and work areas in a clean and orderly condition;
* Performs duties in accordance with the Utility's safety rules and operating regulations and practices;
* Reports irregularities and abnormal conditions;
* Assists employees of equal or higher classification;
* Performs similar or less skilled work.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
* Education equivalent to four years of high school;
* Ability to read, write, spell and follow instructions;
* Ability to understand work processes, methods and use of equipment and machinery;
* Ability to pass post-offer agility test for this position.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid
conditions, moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The noise level in
the work environment is usually moderate. The incumbent must have the ability to work under
adverse conditions including extremes of temperature, humidity, precipitation and dust. Exposure to dust and extreme temperature or severe outdoor weather conditions occur.
