Secondary Education Teacher/ Head Coach QUALIFICATIONS:
Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education. Must hold an appropriate Alabama Teacher Certificate with a secondary education endorsement for grades 7-12. Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the assigned task. Previous coaching experience preferred. Preference may be given to specific sport coaching experience. Preference may be given to individuals with teaching experience. Must meet AHSAA coaching standards. Valid first aid/CPR certificate required. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women. Provide sports activity supervision, training and coaching to student athletes as assigned by Athletic Director and assist the Athletic Director in carrying out assigned responsibilities. Essential Job Functions: TEACHING
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and the capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to the assignment. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. Review current developments, literature, and technical source information related to job responsibilities. Ensure adherence to safety procedures. Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies. Perform any other pertinent assignment deemed necessary by the principal to assist in the efficiency and effectiveness of the classroom. COACHING Have understanding and knowledge of rules and regulations regarding the sport as presented in the Alabama Athletic Association Handbook. Keep abreast of all rules and rule changes. Keep abreast of new developments, innovate ideas, and techniques by attendance at clinics, workshops and reading in the field. Assist Athletic Director in proper registration of athletes. Assist Athletic Director in making systematic issuance of equipment. Assist Athletic Director in providing accurate information needed to compile eligibility lists and other reports. Meet with squad to discuss all rules and regulations. Assume responsibility for constant care of equipment and facilities. Assume supervisory control over athletes and teams assigned and over all athletes when such control is needed. Be in regular attendance at all contests and practice sessions. Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner. Emphasize safety precautions; be aware of best training procedures and injury preventative actions. Conduct self and teams in an ethical manner during contest and practice. Instruct players in rules of the game, rule changes, new developments, and innovative ideas. Carry out the regulations for coaches as described in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Assist in return, storage, and inventory of school equipment. Recommend facility maintenance and improvements. Recommend equipment to be purchased. Recommend schedule improvements. Make reports as requested by Athletic Director. EMPLOYMENT: This is a nine-month contract (187 days). Board approved salary schedule. Board approved coaching supplement will also be provided.
