Job SummaryGENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under general administrative supervision and Secretary II, the Secretary I performs secretarial and administrative assistance work requiring independent judgement and discretion and does related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS Basic office procedures Intermediate level computer operations Desktop publishing; word processing, spreadsheets, database, basic bookkeeping practices. Operation of office machines Intermediate level secretarial practices A valid first aid/CPR certificate Ability to: Oversee and organize the operation of an office Interact effectively and positively with students, staff, parents and the general public Perform duties with little or no supervision Interpret and apply district/school rules and policies with good judgement Effectively work in an atmosphere characterized by frequent interruptions Desirable Qualifications: Advanced level computer skills Intermediate bookkeeping skills Experience with student information systems Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent One year of increasingly responsible secretarial experience requiring frequent contact with the public, preferably in a school district TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs a variety of secretarial and clerical duties; interview office visitors and telephone callers and either answer questions concerning the schools course, activities or programs or refers persons to another source of information Type material of a confidential nature Desktop publishing: Student bulletins; parent newsletters; notification of school activities. Acts as a secretary to the administration Maintains a filing system for administration, school business and activities Compiles and prepares reports for state, local and federal agencies. Assists Secretary II with school budget, process orders, assist with ordering, distribution and inventorying of supplies. Receives, opens and routes mail Requirements / QualificationsHigh school graduate. Passing score on the District clerical proficiency test. Possess the ability to work positively and effectively with students, families, school personnel, and other community agencies. Office experience preferred. Bilingual preferred.Comments and Other InformationThis is a temporary position which needs to be filled for 20 days with the possibility of an extension.
