About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Secretary Senior in our Area No. 9 Office located in Fairfax Virginia. The successful candidate will serve as the Area Office (AO) manager and provides administrative assistance to the Area First Sergeant, Sergeants, and Troopers; organizes and monitors the daily workflow, independently adjusting priorities, and restructuring work; prepares and type reports, complaints, use of force investigations, and forms; maintains all legal documents as well as answering of all Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Court Ordered Subpoenas; serves as file custodian of AO administrative, operations, personnel, equipment and report files; manages maintenance requests, security, and purging of area files; monitors, orders, receives and distributes office supplies; maintains AO equipment and keeps an up-to-date inventory of AO equipment; serves as an Alternate Evidence Custodian; and acts independently on behalf of the First Sergeant where time is of the essence in meeting work deadlines and the mission of the AO.

Minimum Qualifications

* Working knowledge of general office and clerical practices and procedures; of basic mathematics; of office equipment; and of standard English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage.

* Skill in operating a computer, typing/keyboarding, and use of Microsoft Office applications.

* Demonstrated ability to manage and organize general office operations; to analyze and solve problems to expedite workflow and daily office functions; to compose, prepare, and track correspondence, reports and other documents and complete forms; to collect and assemble information; to operate standard automated office equipment; to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing with the public and other agencies; to interpret and follow oral and written rules and regulations; and to work independently and as part of a team.

* Experience demonstrating knowledge of basic office practices and procedures, proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, filing systems and basic math.

* Must be qualified to serve as a Notary Public.

* High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
