Carilion Clinic, a leading healthcare provider in Southwest Virginia, is seeking applicants for the position of Chief of the Section of Infectious Diseases in the department of Medicine. This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of infectious disease care, research, and education within a vibrant academic medical center. The Section Chief of Infectious Diseases will receive an academic appointment at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, with faculty rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.We are looking for a dynamic, growth-focused Infectious Diseases leader with excellent clinical experience, proven academic interest, and great vision and creativity. Our program provides comprehensive Infectious Diseases services to a diverse patient mix in a tertiary care, Level 1 trauma center. An integrated Carilion Children's Hospital is on campus. There are active programs in Hospital Epidemiology, Antimicrobial Stewardship, and Outpatient Antibiotic Therapy.Carilion Clinic is a progressive leader in American healthcare dedicated to improving outcomes and enhancing value for every patient, while advancing the quality of care through medical education and research in partnership with Virginia Tech and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion (VTC). We collaborate closely with our Infectious Diseases colleagues at the nearby Salem Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) on educational and research endeavors.Our Infectious Diseases fellowship program has a 100% first-time board pass rate for our fellows, and we work closely with our pharmacy colleagues who host a top-notch Infectious Diseases Pharmacy residency program. Our outpatient clinic offers a full range of services that include a Ryan White funded HIV clinic, Hepatitis C clinic, OPAT clinic, and a successful Travel clinic.Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership for the Infectious Diseases Section, fostering a culture of excellence in clinical care, research, and education.
  • Oversee the clinical operations of the Infectious Diseases Section, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care to our diverse patient population.
  • Mentor and support a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, educators and researchers, promoting professional growth and development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Virginia Tech to advance research initiatives and educational programs in infectious diseases.
  • Engage in academic activities, including teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, and contributing to scholarly research and publication.
Roanoke is a metro area of 300,000, located at the southern tip of Virginia's spectacularly beautiful Shenandoah Valley surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains and close to the 22,000-acre Smith Mountain Lake.   • Medical degree from a recognized accredited university and eligibility to obtain an independent license to practice Medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Board certification in Infectious Disease with demonstrated expertise in clinical care and research.
  • Proven track record of leadership in administration, research, and education, with a commitment to excellence.
  • Prior experience in an academic medical center or teaching hospital setting is preferred.
  • Physician leadership experience with emphasis on team-building; development of integrated collaborative models of care, education, and research; and managing people and programs
