Security & Alarm TechRequisition IDreq31262Working TitleSecurity & Alarm TechPosition Grade11Position SummaryPosition Summary: This position will report to the Alarms supervisor along with a third vendor system alarm technician to support the many life safety systems (Fire, Intrusion, CCTV, 24x7, 365 on call support), and working with Safety and Risk, as well as the local AHJ (Fire Marshal).Critical Functions of the Position:
  • Strong alarm technology knowledge and work experience
  • Project Management/work independently with minimal supervision
  • Customer interfacing (University, Health Sciences (HSC) organizations, staff, students and non UNM agencies - Research Park, Student services, Rain Forest like agencies
  • Estimating, design for new, remodel and existing buildings for all life safety aspects
  • Working with UNM Police on life safety or like incidents, and support of their operation
  • Disaster recovery support with design, engineer, configuration and support, along with documentation
  • Interfacing with vendors, carriers of telecommunications products, designs and support as needed
  • Research and test all aspects of Life Safety components and systems
  • Cherwell and Pinnacle interface, support as needed for IT Alarm support for trouble tickets, incidents and projects
  • Review of budget, invoicing, expenses, tracking of products, use of the PCard process and audit ability

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: State of New Mexico ES-3J Journeyman Low Voltage Special Systems (under 50 volts).Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.Preferred Qualifications
  • Alarm industry knowledge in general, theoretical, hands on (all facets) 5 plus years experience
  • Fire alarm support - 5 years experience
  • Intrusion alarm support - 5 years experience
  • CCTV support - 5 years experience
  • Available for on call support 24x7 on a rotation basis
  • Campus Security or another like committee representative
  • Design, installation and maintenance of systems for life safety
