Conducts preventative security and safety patrols throughout buildings and grounds. Provides security for the hospital and clinic patients, visitors, and staff and safeguards the property by immediately responding to all requests and emergency codes. Provides leadership and direction to staff in crisis situations to control disruptive behavior. Maintains alertness for unusual and abnormal conditions or suspicious activities. Observes unauthorized persons and notifies supervisor or police appropriately. Inspects equipment such as radios, fire extinguishers, panic alarms, AED units, emergency phones, etc. for faulty or malfunctioning operation and reports to appropriate department. Reports potential fire or safety hazards. Performs and participates in related Safety / Emergency Management / Security drills and tests. Reports questionable conditions, incidents and discrepancies to management or other appropriate staff. Writes detailed, accurate and objective Incident Reports and Daily Activity Logs.
Conducts follow-up investigations as needed. Directs and regulates vehicular traffic as necessary. Assists in maintaining traffic control during snow removal operations. Keeps emergency vehicle lanes clear at all times. Observes and maintains radio communication with the Switchboard at all times. Assists with transporting deceased persons to the Morgue and releasing to the appropriate organization. Interacts with law enforcement officers and assists as needed. Consult with and keep the Security Supervisor and Director of Safety and informed of activities, needs and problems in assigned areas.
Security Officers may be required to perform other tasks or duties as requested by the Security Supervisor and Director of Safety and Security.
Other functions:
Works in collaboration with the Engineering Department on snow plowing / sanding, landscaping and miscellaneous contractor's notifications and communications
On occasion as needed, shovels or clears snow from walkways and / or spreads ice melting salt mixture as directed or indicated by weather conditions
Education: Associate's degree or equivalent work experience required.
Experience: 2-3 years of experience in healthcare, security, military, law enforcement, corrections, or Fire/EMS preferred

Ability to prepare clear, concise reports and routine correspondence. Ability to gather facts and evidence. Ability to deescalate and physically interact as necessary to successfully manage disruptive or harmful behavior. Ability to lift patients, walk at a rapid pace, walk and stand for extended periods of time and withstand adverse weather conditions.
