Position Type: OPERATIONS/Security Assistant (Full-time w/benefits)Date Posted: 2/9/2024Location: South HighDate Available: 02/20/2024Closing Date: 09/27/2024 effective 7/1/23 POSITION: Security Assistant (Full-time w/benefits) 10 months LOCATION: Central Bucks High School South AVAILABLE: 2024/2025 School Year (exact dates TBD) COMPENSATION: $18.19 p/hr HOURS: Hours 07:00 AM - 3:30 PM (8-hours), M-F, 10 month, 183 days DESCRIPTION: Summary: To assist administration and professional staff in maintaining safety and security at all CBSD (Central Bucks School District) school campuses and to work closely with local emergency service agencies on matters related to CBSD Schools. Under the immediate supervision of the District Safety & Security Manager, and the general direction of the assigned School Administrators, the School Security Officer (SSO) is responsible to assist administrators, professional staff, and students maintain a safe and secure school environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervision of faculty and student parking lots.
  • Supervision of physical education locker rooms and rest rooms during class periods.
  • Supervision of all building rest rooms, lounges, and lunch & learn program.
  • Supervision of students on bus platform.
  • Provision of supervisory assistance to professional staff in cafeteria.
  • Patrol of building interior/exterior on a regular basis.
  • Responds to and controls emergency situations; administers first aid and CPR within certification categories. Apprehends and detains people within the limits specified under the Criminal Code of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and internal policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring and operation of safety/security technology (i.e., CCTV, access cards, etc.).
  • Occasional performance of extra security duties throughout the school year on evenings and/or weekends.
  • Observation of general usage of building and reporting of any problems noted.
  • Issuance of student parking tickets.
  • Liaison with local police department in matters where students are involved.
  • Distributing and monitoring of student parking passes.
  • Occasionally called as witness to criminal/civil proceedings.
  • Submit written reports, without exception, of all incidents and activities occurring on school properties and in the immediate perimeter area relative to the School District. Reports are to be concise, accurate, grammatically correct, and able to be presented for management and/or legal review.
  • Through meticulous physical appearance and professional presentation serves as an active deterrent to potential security risks; recognizes and responds to changes in normal conditions that may lead to safety or security risks including contacting appropriate outside agencies.
  • Ensure proper use and care of department equipment; operate and maintain equipment and vehicles in accordance with established policies and procedures. Safeguard School District assets, property, equipment, and facilities against illegal and destructive acts.
  • Enforce and abide by all rules, regulations and policies of the Central Bucks School District and the Operations Department.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree or higher preferred.
  • At least two years of full-time employment history.
  • Experience in military, fire, emergency medical, public safety, or law enforcement preferred. Also, experience working with adolescents is beneficial and preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and write in English equivalent to a high school graduate.
  • Ability to communicate in English particularly in emergency situations requiring clear and definitive articulation to assure confidence, control, and safety of those involved; to respond to guests and employees with poise, tact, and authority during routine and/or crisis situations; to interact effectively with all levels of employees and with law enforcement authorities; to make sound judgements, resolve conflicts and deal with both victims and perpetrators of crime.
  • Must possess or be able to successfully complete and maintain current CPR and First Aid Certification as set forth by the American Red Cross or equivalent association. Any additional certifications such as Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Pennsylvania State Police Act 235, should be maintained and current.
  • Must successfully complete required Act 44 and Safe Schools training within the first 6 months of employment i.e., NASRO (National Association of School Resource Officers) School Resource Officer, ICS-100, ICS-200, and other training as assigned.
  • Function in a non-discriminatory manner. Must possess the ability to make mature and sound judgments; defuse and resolve conflicts.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Will consider a comparable combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to cooperatively work with students and staff. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must display good judgment and organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks and communicate effectively.
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work regularly and on time.
  • Ability to work in a school environment for extended periods of time including but not limited to sitting, standing, bending, reaching, walking, talking, hearing, climbing stairs and routinely lifting up to 20 lbs. This position will require extensive walking in and around the school building.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
