Overview:
Position starts at $21.84 an hour!
The schedule for this position is Sunday night to Wednesday night 12:00 am to 7:30 am.
Responsible for facilitating departmental and organizational communication during operating and non-operating hours; during emergency and non-emergency operations.
Serves as after-hours receptionist and radio base operator.
Responsibilities:
Communication and Coordination:
- Operates two-way radio system, answering calls to Security or Dispatch from employees during and after regular operating hours and contacting appropriate individuals by radio, phone, or email as needed.
- Contacts internal and external emergency personnel as needed via two-way radio system and phone and effectively dispatches to the correct location.
- Accurately responds to and records information from incoming telephone and radio calls.
- Assists and communicates with other Security staff on duty when special situations arise (e.g., special events, after-hours deliveries, Animal wellness).
Emergency Response and Safety:
- Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of, and actively participates in the Emergency Response Plan (ERP), and is able to pass a semi-annual test on the ERP.
- Demonstrates a calm professional composure during emergencies and stressful situations.
- Attends to any employees or guests that are injured until medical personnel arrives using trained CPR, ERT, and AED Zoo practices.
- Enters and distributes incident, injury, and crash reports utilizing the Security Reports database.
- Always maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
Security and Surveillance:
- Operates and monitors security cameras and reports unusual activity to Security Management.
- Operates access control system and maintains an accurate log of all personnel gaining access.
Administrative Duties:
- Completes and maintains daily dispatch logs, incident reports, workers compensation documents, community service time sheets, first aid documents, Security management daily brief, and any other required paperwork.
- Assists Safety and Security Management with clerical support duties as needed.
- Creates Year-Round and Seasonal Employee and Volunteer ID cards and accurately records the information.
Community Service and Support:
- Assists with the Community Service Program by accurately maintaining proper logs of times and locations worked and effectively communicates this information with the appropriate court systems.

Qualifications:
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Communication:
- Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent telephone and radio etiquette.
Technical Skills:
- Basic computer skills required. (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Word, Office, and web-based applications)
- Ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
- Ability to utilize basic record keeping techniques.
- Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks simultaneously such as: video camera monitoring and radio dispatching/monitoring required.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to be alert to potentially abnormal conditions required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient and cost-effective manner and without direct supervision.
- One year of experience answering phones and providing customer service preferred.
- Ability to provide excellent guest service by interacting with guests positively and upholding the Make it G.R.E.A.T. standards.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all Zoo team members and contacts regarding company business.
- Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols.
- Possession of a valid state issued motor vehicle operators license and a good driving record.
- Ability to adhere to the Columbus Zoo and Aquariums drug-free workplace policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and follow-up treatment.
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually.
- Ability to think and act quickly, with good judgment, in all situations, including emergencies.
